City will challenge. Chelsea are still my favourites, but I think Man Utd will struggle unless (as andy@moFo said) Rooney is on fire again.

If Arsenal, Man Utd or Chelsea would have signed Silva and Yaya (with the realistic prospect of Balotelli and Milner as well) their fans would have been creaming themselves.

Rooney is a genuine world class player why wouldn't he score the same amount of goals as he did last season?

As for City's signings no; Balotelli aside I wouldn't be massively excited about any of them, least of all Toure or Milner

Are you sure?

The same Toure that Arsenal have been linked to for ever, and had a trial at the club (couldn't get a work permit at the time) and couldn't have signed many times. A good player, but nothing to get over excited about.

The same Balotelli Arsenal have been linked to for yonks, I wasn't excited then, and certainly won't if he joins Citeh.

James Milner???!!? don't make me laugh. Average player, and as said on F365, if he's worth £30m I'm worth a few hundred thousand.

I love how people write off MU before the season even starts ;)

I hope we do struggle like last season, we were so far off the pace it was unbelievable!!!

People alsoo seem to forget we had the worst injuries for years and years last season.

Lets hope we struggle like we did last season and it takes a game against Chelsea to decide the winner of the League ;)

I personally would be delighted if we had signed Yaya Touré and Boateng. We need players in those positions, Touré has genuine quality on the deck married with great physique, and whilst I've only seen Boateng play for Germany at the WC, he looked solid, quick and strong then.

I'd love to be proved wrong because I hate Rich Owners swooping in and buying success, and though I don't really like Mancini's tactics, I think they will be a tough tough side this year. He's had 6 months to get settled and get his side playing the way he wants them to, and I think he has bought top players this summer, they have the ridiculous level of strength in depth there now that Chelsea did when they first rose to prominence under Mourinho.

If we are going with the Chelsea analogy, last season was the year where the likeable but unsuccessful silver-haired existing manager was sacked amid outcry and sympathy from fans and pundits (Ranieri/Hughes), and replaced with the young, but much-heralded man from overseas (Mourinho/Mancini). This season is the one where the newly installed upstart wins the league...

The difference being Mourinho had the walk to match the talk, and I don't think Mancini does. And Hughes is a **** and wouldn't get sympathy from me even if he was in a relationship with Cashley ****. ;)

well I'm his biggest fan either, as he's an old boy of Chelsea and Manchester United, but I think he was unfairly sacked at the time and the media went overboard putting that view forward at the time I seem to remember... :)

And I agree Mancini is no Mourinho, but with that ridiculous squad he has there, I with my only credentials coming from FM could ******* win the league with them... :D

Rooney is world class, he may well be as good next season and he will have to be for Man Utd not to struggle. In my opinion of course.

I fail to believe that you guys wouldn't be getting excited and hyped up had Man United or Arsenal signed the players City have (to add to their respective current squads).

Let's say City do get Balotelli and Milner.

Silva is top class in my opinion, people may say he's too light weight but if you watch La Liga you can see he is not scared to get stuck in.

Boateng looked extremely steady for Germany and that kind of consistency is what you need to win a title. He also adds versatility, given he can play all across the back line.

Kolarov - As mentioned earlier, he's got to better than Bridge (who's been gash imo) so another improvement there.

Yaya Toure is another solid acquisition. Better than Barry by a mile, will more than likely play alongside De Jong. Playing with his brother and team captain Kolo, is bound to improve morale. I read a fair few football forums other than this and whenever Yaya has been linked to Arsenal, the majority of fans have been of the opinion he would answer their prayers at DM. Can also play CB if required, which can't be a bad thing for their squad.

Balotelli, well what can you say. MASSIVE potential. He's already bloody good and he's what 19? Temperament aside, he's got all the attributes to be awesome. Would be a great buy for any side in the world.

Then onto Milner. Fair dos I can see why people would say he's average etc and he most definitely is overpriced at £25-30M or whatever it is. But no one can deny he's had a great season with Villa and I go back to versatility, he cover more or less any position.

I just think they've improved their team significantly enough to challenge. If they don't gel and finish 5th again, then fair enough I was wrong - but at this moment in time I can't see that happening.

I can. Their signings thusfar haven't exactly set the world on fire.

At certain points last season we could have won the league if we'd just beaten the teams that we were expected to have won against. Our signings so far haven't had any chance to impress, from what I've read of the pre season games Koscielny has done fine and Chamakh scored the other day as well so all in all our pre season preparation is going well. It's not as if we're a club in crisis, we have lots of creative attacking players and last season minus a few terrible performances we weren't that bad, it just happened to be overshadowed on the whole by the Barcelona Champions League matches.

Yes we have lost 4 CB's. But one didn't play any games (Senderos) one was totally ***** and had a head like a fish (work it out), one was Sol, and for all the will in the world couldn't play 38 games in a season imo (he was a good signing though) and the other being Gallas.

Gallas is a miss this season, although you know he would be missing for a period as he always was (injury), and no one at the club liked him.

So Koscielny/Djourou replace BFGS/Fish Head/Senderos.

So are we weaker than last season? No, about the same I think once we sign another CB which we will. Personally I think we need to sign 3 players, 2 at the minimum (GK & CB)

I think Djourou picked up an injury against SC Neusiedl the other day. He's almost as injury prone as gallas. I'm not a fan of Wengers 4-3-3 because, as last season shows it's useless against attacking teams such as Barca, Chelsea and Man U. It could work against weaker attacking teams but I would prefer to see us switch to 4-2-3-1 against the bigger teams and 4-4-2 against mid-table teams. GK, CB (2 if possible) and an experienced DM would be a welcome bonus imo.

City wont win the league. They have an ok manager but the team is just not quite there. As already said, none of citys signings are that exciting. Only one I would really love is silva because united could do with another midfielder.

Its a bit sad really for city, all the money in the world but none of the best players. Players like David Villa are world class, yaya toure is not world class and 220k a week wages is a joke. Look at united and chelseas team and think about how many of citys players would walk into their team.

The 4-3-3 has been fine against most teams. Its only a very small percentage of teams where some fine tuning is required. It also brings out the best in Fabregas.

Looking at the Arsenal blogs and what fans are saying it looks as though Arsene really shot himself in the foot with what he is quoted as saying about transfers around April/May. Quotes suggesting we could compete with Chelsea for players were certainly misleading and possibly taken out of context. He never said we were actually going to compete.

Even as someone who still believes he is the best man for the job, it has been a disappointing summer so far. A quality PL CB would certainly change all of that though. I just wish we wouldn't make such hard work of it. There are a number of good CB's playing for clubs in the PL who, I would imagine, jump at the chance of coming to Arsenal. Maybe the clubs wouldn't sell but ultimately if you offer them the right money, it would be difficult to refuse.

tbf to City, they've made some outstanding buys so far and people are probably under rating the players a little. Silva is really, really talented, he may take a while to adjust but he is undeniably brilliant when on form and I'd take him at Arsenal.

Yaya Toure is again very good, people under rate him because he 'couldn't get in Barca's side', but there was something more than meets the eye there, rumours that Guardiola preferred Busquets for other reasons, and Barca not wanting to pay Toure performance bonuses so they stopped playing him, but there was HUGE outrage when he kept getting dropped and the local papers were protesting through huge headlines that they wanted the beast Toure to play and not Busquets since he was in such great form then suddenly just stopped playing.

Kolarov is probably the highest rated young LB in the world, Mourinho adores him and has singled him out for very flattering praise a couple of times.

Don't need to say how talented Balotelli is, and with somebody who could feed his ego a bit and give him more time on the pitch, he could flourish and become one of the world's best players in a few years, no exaggeration, attitude aside, the things he can do with a football make me question physics.

Boateng I haven't seen too much of but from what I've seen he looks far from poor and excellent cover.

They still have a few weaknesses in the side sure, and you can't guarantee that Mancini will make it all work out on the pitch, but you can't knock their signings this summer, they've been very astute imo.
