Milner's finally gone to City then, £16m + Ireland.

Not a bad deal, I knew City were rich but giving us an entire country was generous.

well, he was in the team that had a core build around rooney and ronaldo using super counter attacking speed to win us games.

carrick was playing a part dont get me wrong. but you could have replaced carrick with any good midfielder, even to go as low i guess as someone like S. Parker.

it wasnt that carrick brought something that say, an Essien, or lampard, or gerrard couldnt have brought us. he was just the best we had at the time and therefore he played. note how since ronaldo left and carrick was still in the team, we lose the premierleague and drop woefully out of the Champions league (carrick!!! why not just stand up to that bayern striker instead of falling on your behind?).. tells me that we won and also lost because of ronaldo NOTHING to do with carrick im afraid.

BOL - so let me get this right

Because the best player on the planet leaves a team - one player (in a completely different position no-less) is responsible for us losing the EPL by 2 points (incl goal diff)

That is absolutely retarded

right, so you think that we wouldnt have picked up ANY extra points with ronaldo, despite him scoring 66 goals over the previous 3 seasons?

now you are sounding retarded.

Burnley dont give you the run around if you have ronaldo. he gives them the most torrid time in defence they would likely to face all season. all IMO of course.

When the other big clubs look at our central midfield they must be laughing themselves to sleep. CHelsea ended up with lampard and essien. liverpool, gerrard and masch. arsenal fabregas+anyone. we drew the short straw with carrick alright. he is like the best of the rest if that. Ronaldo walks into anyones team in the world. carrick struggles to make the top teams starting 11 in the premiership. i hope you see where i am going with this. you could remove carrick completely from the UTD team and replace with any of the above, and probably do much much better. but you couldnt take ronaldo out of the team and replace with practically anyone from around the world, because no one brings what ronaldo did. simple as.

the constant is carrick, the only change was the loss of ronaldo. that and the above tells me that it was infact the likes of ronaldo who won us the silverware not carrick. you could have had scott parker in there in place of carrick and still gotten the same results.

so what does that mean. do you disagree with any of the sentiment above?

do you believe that having ronaldo last seaon would possibly have yielded an extra point or two?

or that carrick walks into any top 4 premiership team? i just cant see it sorry. out of the big teams we have the weakest central midfield and have done for time. the only thing that keeps us relatively ship shape is scholes and the fact that we were able to pak 3 into the centre due to the talent of ronaldo and rooney running the length of the pitch to score magnificent goals.

Carrick and Ronaldo situations are COMPLETELY seperate - thats what makes your oriiginal point retarded

Of course having Ronaldo (instead of Valencia - who I personally think did very well for his first season) would have generated more points .....and more rolling about on the floor....and more media attention about where he was going to go.... but it has nothing at all to do with whether carrick is worth keeping vs Gibson

Its like chosing champagne when offered Coffee or tea to drink, its completely unrelated - picking something else out of the blue

fyi Chelsea "packed" their midfield with Lamps /Mikel / Ballack/Makalele (three of those four) a lot of the time in the last two seasons - and Lamps is the only one currently thats "world class" (more for his club than country but thats a different discussion) , Mikel is pretty young & average and the other two have been past their best for a few years

I don't think Parker is too far away from Carrick's level. You're talking like he's an awful player.

Makelele left 2 seasons ago.

IMO I think Ferguson's spending is done for this summer!

Maybe that press conference yesterday was an indication that the spending is done.

Supposedly this is to replace Dempsey, whos may be off to Liverpool.

I'd be surprised. He's signed as a striker, considering we have two worth naming in our squad, one is a long term injury.

Although it's only words, Hodgson did say he won't go back and sign players from Fulham (Dempsey/Hangeland/Konchesky) - whether he does or not is another matter. Dempsey will still play for us, it's just while Hughes is sorting his team he was playing the lineup we're used to. He'll probably opt for Dempsey/Duff on the wings soon.

If Dempsey was to go, Liverpool would probably have to stump £10m+.

Icelandic press saying we've agreed a fee for*Gylfi Sigurdsson from Reading....but with all the 'press' reports of us signing players in 24 and 48 hours recently, it's probably not true :p
