Makelele left 2 seasons ago.

that long ago?wow it doesnt seem like it

(I believe you, just surprised :))

Surely you meant Essien rather than Makelele?

I was thinking Essien was injured for a lot of last season wasnt he?

edit - Parker is good for the level he plays at, not totally convinced he would do that well in the CL though, which kind of bears fruit as he hasnt had any big team actually play him for any length of time despite his 18 months at Chelsea (frozen out or just not good enough?)

Icelandic press saying we've agreed a fee for*Gylfi Sigurdsson from Reading....but with all the 'press' reports of us signing players in 24 and 48 hours recently, it's probably not true :p

lol :D I hope you do, will give my Dad more an an opportunity to say "Bloody hell Sigurdsson." if he plays for you while on Sky.

James Vaughan's move to Blackpool has stalled because he wants more money apparently. Everton have agreed terms with them so it's just personal terms in the way now.

Well im still unsure over the Milner deal, hes a decent/solid player but for the money we have paid i think that its too much pressure on him.
But we will soon see :)

Looks like Cavalieri has been offered to Cesena on loan for a year with a view to a £1 million pound deal should they want him.

So we sign an unwanted Championship quality keeper for £2.3 million and offload a massively superior keeper for £1 million?

We're a complete and utter joke. Bar Cole none of the players we've been linked with since Hodgson took over belong anywhere near our club. Come back Rafa :(

If those figures for Cavalieri are right then the deal's a total joke. We should be looking at giving Gulacsi a go regardless of Cavalieri wanting to leave.

I think it's harsh to be wanting Woy out so quickly, when the only thing he's done is get a draw against Arsenal, while he had 10 men. Give him a chance, jeez..

Good lord.

Ahhh at Blackpool they have a £10k limit on player wages and their ex-chairman who resigned yesterday, Karl Oyston has been under pressure to remove it to get better players in.

Would explain why Vaughan never went today then.

More rubbish journalism?

Yobo heads for Scotland

Joseph Yobo could be on his way to Scotland on a one-year loan deal, sources close to the player have told SuperSport.com.

The Nigerian international has been frozen out of the Everton starting team since his return from the African Cup of Nations in February, and is keen to rack up playing minutes.

"A number of clubs have indicated their interest in having him, and Everton have no objections," a source close to the player told SuperSport.com.

"But the firm interest has come from Scotland and discussions are taking place."

Although no club was mentioned, Celtic are believed to be in the forefront of discussions and a deal is expected to be sealed within days.

How that would benefit us I don't know!

Apparently Sevilla didn't play Sébastien Squillaci in their Champions League qualifier last night because Arsenal are in the middle of negotiations to sign him.

Hopefully some good news at last? Seems like it could happen, Wenger does love to sign his compatriots. He's experienced and rugged, I'd be delighted if we snapped him up.

NOW SIGN A GOALIE AND A DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER BECAUSE EVERYONE IS CROCKED
go go go go go go Arsene do it.

Just heard the news as well, or read it from the BBC :

Arsenal are close to sealing a deal for Sevilla's Sebastien Squillaci after the Spanish side withdrew the French defender from a Champions League qualifier.
Full story: Daily Mirror

Now, I've always looked at the Italians, Portugese and Spanish a bit differently. It's one thing signing a young player, polishing him off to the Premier League's pace etc., but it's another signing an experienced guy. He's 30, will he have the legs for our league? He's played in France for most of his time (no bad thing), but then nearing the latter parts of his career has been in Spain.

Would be good though, I'm assuming he's played in e.g. Europe for most of his Sevilla career so he'd have a lot of experience though.

Does he necessarily need to be that quick? Vermaelen is no slouch, and Koscielny looks to have a decent turn of pace too. What we need at the moment is cover and experience, and I'd say he fits both.

Good lord.
No no, it's ok. I think he's just trying to do a Pigeon.

There is no indication it is a loan deal. All we know is he will be heading to Italy for a medical after our Euro game.

You seem to have something against poor Roy, or are you in love with Rafa?

Hehe, no I don't imagine at 30 that Squillaci is the quickest, but I was assuming that he is a male human that has learnt to play a position in defense in the game of football (we don't have many of those) and also that he has two functioning legs and two functioning arms (which cannot be said of Djourou), so we'll take him!! :D

No, I'm not saying he has to be pacey, just have enough speed for our league. 30's not really a time to find out that he hasn't simply because you can't send the guy to the gym or track for a bit.

As said though, I agree, we need cover, it's pleasing we're going for somebody with a good few games under his belt as well.

Yeap, I think it's time to get rid of Djourou. He's 23 and still inexperience is counting against him, he's been injured that often.

Tottenham will only make a £15m bid for Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano if they qualify for the group stages of the Champions League. Even then the Brazilian's £90,000-a-week wages may prove to be a stumbling block.

I admire Levy's business sense to keep the clubs head above water but there has to come a point were you need to invest to progress. Our current CFs just aren't up for the job to take us to the next stage in our progress.

By his stats he is really going to help with your scoring problems

Certainly won't worsen the problems, I don't know much about him but I have faith...will give him a few games before passing judgement.

Besides, he's a proper right sided winger as well as a striker so we can finally fill that gap, Delap/Whitehead are unconvincing on the right. :)

Your current CFs managed to get you to 4th place last season and scored in the away leg of a Champions League tie two nights ago. I'd say they're fine at getting you to the next level. Whether they can cope at that point is a different matter, but then, isn't that exactly the point of what Levy's trying to do?

Based on tuesday, I'd say it's your defence that's more in need of fixing.

EDIT: Also, won't Fabiano now be cup-tied?
