i think the main difference is that UTD might goout (and have done several times) bought 30 million pound players.. but usually only 1 at a time. and even then it took a lot of to-ing and fro-ing to get them to spend that money.

Veron, Rooney, Rio, Berba etc yes so we did it 4 times... but over 6? seasons? and it wasnt a case that we went out and just bought 3 of them and if one didnt work out we had to get another on instead...

they were all destined to be or were great pkayers at the time. well 50/50 aint bad.. right? City just go and blow that on any old Milner or a similar amount on a bolatelli or Silva...

silva is a great player, plus balotelli is a young rooney in the making, milner isnt though and worth £15m tops

Indeed. :p

Luckily, we're building a stadium so that should be soon rectified and we can become successful and then Portsmouth.

It's the ciiiiircle of liiiife!

Without me looking up loads of stuff, whats the rough situation with Spurs's stadium? Did they get planning permission yet or still waiting, any kind of time frame for start/finish date yet?

A hugely bigger stadium would make me sad, because Spurs would have the gate numbers to afford better players, higher wages, and be a proper threat long term. With Roman determined to make Chelsea self sustaining and their last 4 years of transfer market activity and not letting wages get out of control suggesting he really means it, Spurs with a bigger stadium can potentially afford higher wages/bigger players than Chelsea.

Roman has pumped in a lot of money i dont understand why he hasnt built a huge stadium, they could share a stadium for a few months and get it built mostly during the off months. with the number of people living in and around london, they could easily fill a 100,000 seater stadium week in week out.

Psycho there is no where for a 100'000 seater to go....have you seen how small Chelsea is? He couldnt buy the houses round the stadium either as there protected so there is no way you can go except up which would be crazy.

Well, I wouldn't be too surprised if he wanted the team up and running first, then he lost a buttload of money, it would certainly be profitable long term and I'm sure they have to have looked into it, maybe theres nowhere suitable locally though I don't think relocating would kill them though they may not want to.

Then towards the end of his big spending the economy was going to poop and he was losing a crapload as the stock market crashed so he probably didn't want to spend 400mil out of his own pocket.

ARsenal were making a profit, a strong profit and a good stadium would increase profits so it was fairly easy to secure loans, Spurs should be in the same situation, financially stable(as long as they don't let Harry get his grubby mitts into the deals :p ) and so should be able to get the required loans.

Billionaires really don't like putting their own money into things, its how they become that rich. Roman has a club that loses money every year, that pays out more in wages than it takes in, though still it should make financial sense for a bank to give them loans because after its built they should realistically be making a profit if they got an extra 30-50k a week in(with his silly money a HUGE stadium would be possible, but then you have trouble of the bigger the stadium, the harder it is to get planning permission as travel links have to be better, noise is worse, crowds are bigger and local residents are less likely to be happy about it.

Maybe once they are stable and have made a profit for a couple years, or the markets better and Roman's made a bundle back he'll be happy to buy them a 100k stadium.

EDIT:- That would be my guess actually, before he considers some massive investment to get a stadium built(which I think would cost more than any other club due to space problems, or the rather dramatic step of moving out of the area), he probably wants to know Chelsea can be competitive and turn a profit. He's sunk in a lot of money, probably not far off a billion with wages that the income doesn't cover and transfers, but a stadium, especially a huge one he might want, could cost, well, look at Wembley, it could easily be over 600mil.

Where do you put a ground that big in London?

is wembley not in london?

it is possible, but the land will cost major amounts, i dont know anything about london - i stay in scotland so i dont know, but roman can easily afford to build a 100,000 seater stadium, whether he can afford the land or not is another matter.

i dont know the maths in it but 100,000 x how much for a season ticket?

£800 x 100,000 is £80 million, that excludes extra matches such as champions league, fa cup, etc. They could easily make £100 million a year from the stadium, then include the money from selling pies/tea/lager.

Roman can afford it but theree is no where in chelsea to put it so they would have to go somewhere else and become another team lol

hes meant to be dodgy, if i was him i would buy all the houses around the current stadium, then set fire to them all. he gets money from the insurance scam, so he basically ends up getting the land for free. he can then easily re-build the current stadium 1 stand at a time.

Dodgy and stupid aren't always the same thing. In fact in Mr Abrahmovic's case I'd suspect they're probably poles apart, an insurance fraud that blatent would never work.

I'm just trying to imagine any police officer investigating being dumb enough not to think "hold on, Russian Billionnaire buys up dozens of houses round the existing stadium - all houses burn down mysteriously after he's insured them, he wants to build a new and improved stadium, I've got a suspect in mind now...".
