My vrms are under water so I'll let you know if I can improve my clocks, though 1.576v is damn high!!

Still only at 51c only half way bud ;) gonna be next weekend before i fit MB blocks, if i was keeping this case the rear side panel would be cut up by now to get some small fans in blowing on rear of mobo.

Nice run kaap, ancient??!! :D how many chips do you have? And is that using your Dom.plats?

Thanks

Yes I was using the Dom Plats @2400mhz 9-11-11-25 1T 96, I can get them over 2500mhz with the above timings but figured I might be pushing my luck with the CPU @5.2

I have five CPUs

i7 975
i7 980X
i7 3930k
i7 3960X
i7 3970X

The 3930k is the newest, I originally only bought it to test out a faulty mobo. The funny part is it out performs my 3960X and 3970X by a good margin.

If anyone is thinking about getting fast RAM the Dominator Platinums are worth every penny. Not only do they look the part, they are really easy to setup and tune on X79.

Nice scores Kaap :)

Would appear on SB-E at least, disabling cores doesn't give any extra voltage/clock overheads :(

Does faster memory make an awful difference in this? Got 8gb of sammy green to add into my rig today. Hoping for a decent oc out of them, havent been all that impressed with the corsair vengeance lp.

yeah it does, they run rather well on asus boards

Pretty shocked when you see just how tiny theese dimms look in the flesh. My vengeance is a lp kit, but its nearly twice the height of theese.

yeah they are tiny, its job getting them out the packet

I had some vengeance aswell, they wasn't very good tbh, just basic kit

these Samsung are a lot more forgiving/flexable when it comes to speed/timings

Yes fast speed and tight timings.

Where ivy bridge has got better individual core performance than my sandy bridge E, it is only the fast memory keeping me within touching distance.

@Wazza, i tried to take the vengeance to 1866mhz, it wouldnt happen. Even at their rated 1600mhz they needed 1.575v to run ok.

@Kaapstad, my 3570k is a very dissapointing example of the breed mate, needs 1.32v in bios to be stable without whea errors in games etc at 4.5ghz. The sooner i can get a 3770k the better, my old i7 920 at 4.2ghz was a much better chip for my gaming use. But im looking forward to clocking the samsung green, never really clocked ram a lot, except from s775 days where i had some nice micron d9 team xtreme 800mhz that clocked easily to 1066mhz. Shame the team stuff now is all high profile.

If you are thinking of getting a 3770k, have you thought about hanging on until the 4770k comes out. You will need a new mobo but in the long run it could save you money, as it will be a long time until anything better comes out and my guess is Haswell will overclock a lot better than Ivy Bridge.

You could even go the whole hog and get one of the Corsair H series coolers or similar, this would let you fit whatever profile ram you want to.

Never thought of this, but I've had my 3770k over a month now. I'd do this setter. Hopefully no need to delid too... :D

Yeah, they're meant to be pushing out the faulty C1 stepping chips in June in small amounts. They need a new chipset to fix the issue, I guess we'll see Haswell properly towards the end of summer but the USB 3.0 issues won't affect some users. I just want to see the Overclocks on these things if the rumours are true etc
