*** Official Test Drive Unlimited 2 Thread ***

I got into it late and its been almost a couple of months since I started and still some of the fairly basic, not very hard to fix, features haven't been fixed simple things like custom radio, ability to adjust seating position/fov in the in car view and so on.

Wheel compatibility is pretty hit and miss still too.

As a racing game I have a hard time taking it seriously, the races are all cut n paste and just boring with no/very few distinctive features, etc. its decent for crusing and a bit of ad hoc racing with other randoms but thats about it, social features are still dire about the only thing that really works well is the police pursuit mode.

Handling is terrible on keyboard but passable on a good wheel, gear changes are a bit clunky but liveable with tho I ended up using automatic as the sequential shift on my wheel is just way too slow for the game, acceleration on pedals is spot on but braking seems to be either full on or full off with little in between (depends a bit on the car some are worse for it than others) so you have to be very careful braking.

Depends what your looking for from the game tbh, the free roam aspects to it are worth a tenner, if your looking for a racing career progression your probably going to be dissapointed and the online aspects aren't the greatest.

Free Roam is what I'm after hence my initial question if the game is getting less or more popular.

Is the OcUK community present in this game?

Not seen much of an OcUK presence, theres a fair player load - I'm usually seeing 5-8 connected players at any one time and around 50 or so per island on the map... most players seem somewhat immature tho.

It's crap to cruise around, TDU 1 is the cruising king of driving games. TDU 2 would be if it had the same or better handling, all those off road roads and all that. Also the acceleration on some cars is stupid, a Range Rover does not accelerate that fast O_o

The original game is still the best for cruising and probably will always be.

Even if the handling and force feedback were sorted in Test Drive Unlimited 2 it still wouldn't be better than it's predecessor for cruising because it's predecessor had an in-game radio so you didn't have to run extra programs in the back-ground to play some music.

TDU2 has an in-game radio, albeit a rather crappy one.

Force Feedback does not work properly at all and the handling cries for a major overhaul although I could sort it out a little by tweaking some of the steering settings.

I picked this up for a fiver in the steam sales & so far got my fivers worth but agree the handling is appalling; once I got a faster car there was no way of being competitive on 'Hardcore' setting where the racing was meant to be 'fun' & enjoyable, more painful & annoying. No matter how much fiddling I did with the set up (playing with 360 pad) I couldn't rectify its short comings & resorted to the 'Sports' handling model. A little better but the bombshell hit when after playing 4-5 hours I finally registered on atari.com for a username to play MP only to find out that my 'offline' profile couldn't be converted to an 'online' profile....pffff

What do you mean, as you play the single player it doesn't turn from day to night (think 2.5 hours = 24 hours = 9.6mins per hour) & rain occasionally?

That's really strange, never heard of that problem before. Did it just happen after experiencing cycles/weather before or is it a new game? I would say if the latter try a fresh install & new profile.

I'm still playing this (in game ColonelK) and am interested in club racing if anyone is up for it

I created a club called "Banzai!" so feel free to add me and join it.
