*** Official Test Drive Unlimited 2 Thread ***

I have bought budget racing games like the Ford Racing series which have been basic games but have had magnificent QA compared to this game.

If you haven't bought TDU2 yet and are thinking of doing so - my advice is, don't bother, even if it's only a few quid in a Steam sale. The developers and the publisher don't deserve your money. And you certainly deserve better.

Finished the final championship on Sunday, bought the yacht, then possibly did a stupid thing by buying a few of the DLC cars off the website. GT500 sounds tastey.

Got nothing to do besides cruise around now because I can't be bothered with multiplayer races and the silly side-missions.

I haven't followed this thread in a while.

Been a beta tester till they stopped closed beta tests, any improvements in the game since then? Last time I checked, shortly after the release, everyone was complaining about the same bugs and an uncompleted game.

Can be had from Amazon for £11, worthy purchase or not?

dont waste ya time Krugga, game is the same now as the beta was, worse in places, mine wont even load past the start button screen :S and Eden and Atari are too busy faffing with console updates to give a monkeys about PC gamers :/

I'm struggling to think of any game I've ever bought, which has been so sub standard. I don't just mean it's a poor game. Even the worst games I've played, they've had a basic level of quality, they've obviously gone through some sort of QA testing to ensure that it 'works' even if it's not a good game.

This game hasn't even undergone such basic testing. It's not just bad, it's broken. By rights I should be able to get a refund, but computer software enjoys a privileged status whereby publishers of substandard crap can get away with fleecing their customers.

yea it was one of my worst purchases ever and i regret it so much..

its the last game i ever buy from that developer team, acording to the patch notes they still didnt add an option to disbale collisions in club races so i guess its still destruction derby

What does the new patch add/change? I haven't played this game for a few weeks. Was good fun, nothing too serious, but had other games to play instead :p

Dispite this game getting panned in some quarters I'm reasonably happy with it. There's a decent amount of SP content (just completed all the challenges in Hawaii so now onto the first Cup - must have taken me a good 18hr or so to get this far I think) and to me it feels a lot like the original TDU. Graphics are acceptable, in particular I liked some of the views from mountain/coastal roads and performance is generally decent (50-120fps) on max settings (1680x1050 2xAA) although there is some kinda wierd issue I get from time to time where GPU usage is at ~50% instead of ~99%, framerate is halved and instead a cpu core is getting maxed out. When that happens, the game always crashes on alt-tab as well.

I didn't use hardcore handling in TDU but in TDU2 it seems fine, in fact I can't really tell the difference between Hardcore and Sport? One thing I have noticed is that the cars handle quite differently so I've been making use of the test drive option before purchasing cars. For example I really struggled to choose a car for A4 until I tried the Audi RS6, the Aston Martin's have better stats but I found the handling a bit poor, too much understeer and then the back end flips out too easily if you start to lose it. Also using a digital throttle a lot of cars wheelspin off the line so stuff like the RS6 makes a nice change not to get overtaken straight off the starting line. In general I'm not 100% convinced by the handling but it isn't massively different from TDU.

Favourite car to drive for me was probably the Spyker Peking to Paris, very fast for an offroad vehicle and one of the most enjoyable cars to drift with. I also enjoyed the Audi S5 in the driving school but haven't actually bought the thing yet as I already had an A5 class car when I reached Hawaii (Lotus Evora Solar Crown).

One thing I don't particularly like is in tournaments where the grid position is dictated by the current leaderboard, as it stretches the field a bit too much i.e. you are nearly always battling against just one enemy for the title. Also it basically forces you to be 'lame' about the order you do races in i.e. the optimal strategy is to start with a speed trap (start near the back of the grid = bigger run up to the first radar), then when you are in 1st place in the championship, you should always choose races/knockout to take advantage of pole position. If the worst should happen and you are knocked off top spot, then switch to speed challenge / time trial (where you are the only car on the grid) until you are back in the lead and then revert to the standard races.

i take back my previous rantings about this game, except it's still bloody stupid, it would seem my gamesave had corrupted and the game didnt see fit to tell me this, so it's working now lol

Bit of an old thread but I picked this up cheap recently as I wanted a game just to cruise around a bit.

Game is a real patch work of stuff that does and doesn't work :S but the amount of work they put into recreating Hawaii is pretty impressive.

The handling is shocking tho, I started the game on keyboard and almost dropped it there and then - the lack of finesse at cornering was painful and overall just clunky and horrid, however on hooking up my wheel I found the steering was playable, acceleration works nicely on pedals, tho braking and gear changes don't work that great but it might just be my wheel - I managed to adjust settings to make that playable with a bit of compromise. However I've ended up using full assitance as much as possible due to random oversteer (I think the physics simulation sometimes "explodes" in sports/hardcore modes).

Problem with the game is theres no real focus and most of its not that interesting, I don't feel any motivation to do the championships, etc. the only reason I've done anything is to get to the cars I wanted to drive and most of those only took a few hours playing the odd side mission to get the money for. Police chases are a bit of fun but happen too infrequently.

Driving the Kolekole pass and watching the valley unfold as you come around the bends pretty much made it worth the purchase tho.

The social stuff is terrible tho if you don't immediatly respond to popups they dissapear and can't be visited later which leads to some people spamming you with friend/club invites even when you've declined them and getting spammed with random GPS, NPC, etc. messages when just trying to have fun.

Isn't that fairly standard for driving games though? I mean, if you aren't motivated to win tournaments and unlock new ones then that kinda knocks out half the "raison d'etre" for most in this genre. Maybe in some ways you are spoilt for choice in TDU2 in the sense that free roaming is such a big part of the game, compared to say NFS titles where I never bother with it and jump straight to events instead. By forcing you to 'unlock' roads TDU1/2 give you a bit more incentive to cruise around and as you intimated there are some nice areas to explore.

One thing I would say is that the voiceovers get old very quickly... "What drama!!!! Apparently the Wilder brothers are squabbling with Stuart again. The pressure of the competition is really starting to heat up...!"

Sorry for the thread revival, seems like nobody's playing the game any more.

Has the game improved at all yet, where any major bugs fixed (like handling, casinos, online connection issues, wheels compatibility, etc.)?

I'd want to get into this game again (after some time spent with the beta and TDU 1) but I'm worried that it's either dying or in a poor state.
