Official TF2 Update Thread

Had a game last night, there are some pretty decent turret locations for defence once you've played it for a while.
 
agreed, i personally would like the see the pyro be able to call in a naplamn strike

can imagine the scene when everybody on the ramparts in 2fort gets naplamed haha

what about napalm though? :P
 
I played it for 20 mins or so. I quite like it.

Good size, some interesting CPs, especially the one where you have to spiral up to get to it. Potential for some good tactics
 
I think one of the problems in tf2 is weapons variety

This has been duely noted across the time TF2 has been out- the new series of updates aims to tackle these problems whilst introducing further customisable elements.

Valve are aiming to bring out multiple weapons for each class eventually- whilst you are only allowed to carry the 3/4 standard weapons you can swap and change them about- they are intent on keeping the rock/paper/scissors balance by the way the new weapons function:

i.e. the first update will be an alternative to the medic's medi-gun/heal-gun; the new weapon will increase total health to 200/250% (opposed to current 150% I think) but uber-charge will be incredibly slow to buildup and shortlived when activated. A double-edged sword tactic.


I'm excited about the possibilities of the 'finished' product (even though it may well be a few years :p) the huge possibility of combinations and variations could well be a riot :D

On a personal note I feel the demo-man is slightly overpowered, notably on the control-point maps where tunnels are often just spammed full of grenades :(
 
Got round to playing Badlands properly and I'm impressed.

An enjoyable map indeed. Love the battle for the middle CP!

It's still not as good as Dustbowl though IMO, but I think it's my second favourite map now!
 
We has a glitcher already with this map today. Sitting in some rock with a sentry guy shooting out :mad:

Had a long play though and it's a great map imo
 
Can't say I like Badlands too much. Like most CP maps you always get idiots defending the last point as soon as the game starts. Its like they are admitting defeat before the game has begun. The only map I don't usually see this on is Gravelpit.

The spires seem to much of a novelty for me too, not necessary to the map. They just look abit out of place, or rather, forced in. Its still a fun play though, just nowhere near as good as Dustbowl/Gravelpit.

Aye, it is a bit odd :\ might have been better off making it some sort of watchtower or something but nevermind!
 
Any weapons updates that provide an alternative weapon for a class that is vastly superior to any others would be suicidal for the game. All those expecting unlock-able 'super weapons' will be greatly dissapointed. Weapons unlocks will be equal to their counterparts, just with different features...

Think faster loading 8 shot bazuca for the soldier, that only does half the damage, or slow fireing high power machine gun for the heavy...
 
As I said, they're releasing unlockable weapons but all with a double-edged sword approach so not to lose the rock,paper,scissors factor of the game :)

Yea seems to be a bugged area at both sides of the map, had two enemy engies hiding a sentry in one game :mad: That better get fixed soom, it's a great map on the whole.

It really favours attack, the last point is impossible to defend for any amount of time and none of the points are that easy to setup 1 or 2 sentrys to lock it down with.

I agree, you do indeed speak truth.

Theres just an alarming amount of people who seem to think they are going to be able to unlock a 1000 rounds a min 1 shot kill uber weapon, or wipe-out-the-whole-map airstrikes....

This game took 10 years to be created an released, there not going to shoot it in the foot that easily!
 
I'd expect it'll be fixed within a couple of weeks

Well it was quicker than that. Small update already

  • Fixed Badlands exploits and missing textures
  • Fixed tv_enable resetting maxplayers value
  • Fixed a case where a spy stabbing from the front of a player would score a backstab
  • Fixed stats being reported incorrectly for some players
  • Dropped weapons now replenish half of your max ammo when picked up
  • Added exec'ing a cfg\.cfg file on the client when you select a class to play (for real this time!)
  • Reverted mp_forcecamera changes from previous release and set TF2 default back to 1

Definately. I think this game's options will merely expand rather than any changes be made :) exciting prospects :)
