Official TF2 Update Thread

One thing that i found annoying is that the TF2 post mentions adding in crafting, so you can combine duplicate items to get something new. If only they said this from the start i wouldnt have been deleting my duplicate items, I would have saved them for when crafting was implemented.

By the time a system like this is implemented you would have loads of duplicates already. But even if that's the case you know they would just reset duplicates anyway.

Bah!

Organise a late night game for goodness sake. Start it at 12am. Make beer drinking mandatory.

I find there is a sweet spot with beer drinking and TF2. You get in the zone, the mouse and keyboard become a direct interface between you and the game! But one or two drinks past it and it becomes a tipping point, and before you know it you are languishing in a hell of your own making.

Ahhhh...so that's where I'm going wrong.:D

I agree about Valve being idiots with the halo business. As said before, if they didn't have such a borked drop system to begin with none of this idling business would've happened. How can Valve not see that themselves. Idiots.

I don't see how when they are trying new things, new features for gaming in a FPS is idiotic. Idling in a server to get virtual items is being a idiot.

Valve lost the plot when they added the RPG random drop elements, now they have situation limited items and crafting and trading planned. I bought an FPS, not an MMO!

New, broken things. The system they implemented was incomplete. Do you know what the last 5 items I got before the idler were? 5 Backburners. What a system.

I've been playing since day one, back in the beta even and yet thanks to this new system I find myself at a disadvantage against a large amount of players. I don't have all the time in the world and the idler allowed me to get weapons whilst I was finishing other tasks.

I suppose its easier than working on the episodic content they promised us. Wasn't it 2 years for 3 small games? Whoever made that estimation should be fired.

Huh? I know the system is broken but your telling me you don't have all the weapons and items? You have 2 ways to get weapons and before the random drop system you only had the one which was achievements. So no you are not at a disadvantage. You are choosing to cheat the system. I would be the one at a disadvantage because I'm playing the game legitimately.

The random drop system sucks. I know it does. But the trading and other things sound good. They allow other ways for players to enjoy the game. You are not forced to use them. Want a standard FPS? Then play it like one. Plus Valve are all about the stats. They track everything. If a system isn't used, they will drop it.

Hats are a rare thing. Yeah some people have all of them and maybe they haven't played as long as you. But the idea that not everyone has something is cool. Makes it all the more fun when you do get one. I have none other than the Halo btw.

But the achievements require me to stop playing the game for fun, and start grinding. The whole point of the random drop system was that people who didn't want to grind could still obtain the items. So I am at a disadvantage due to a broken system.

Trading and that does sound good, but when will it be implemented?

I couldn't care less about hats. All I want is the huntsman for when I occasionally play Sniper. Achievement whoring just means I stop playing a team game and put the rest of my fellows reds or blues at a disadvantage. Can't join an achievement server either cause apparently that's cheating.

How are you at a disadvantage? Everyone is in exactly the same boat as you. You wait for a random drop or you work for it. I worked for it. I now have one. It wasn't hard and if I had to do it again because I wasn't given it in a RANDOM drop then I wouldn't have a problem. I would be playing the game how it was meant to be played. I don't now how long you have to idle for but let me just put it like this;
Say we both start a fresh account. You idle for 5 days and get every weapon. I play hardcore for 2 weeks and manage to get the weapons. That means while I'm playing, for 9 days you have the advantage over me all because you chose to idle. Cheating the system. I don't moan about how I think I am at a disadvantage. You have the weapons sure, but do you have the skill? I have been playing for 2 weeks. You have been playing for 9.

Trading and that does sound good, but when will it be implemented?
I don't know and it doesn't matter. It's a game which is growing. I haven't ever seen constant updates to a FPS before so I'm loving that Valve are dedicated to it, even though they don't have to be. So not only are you getting add ons to a game but you are getting them for free.

Like I said, i've tried the random drop route and all I got was backburners. Lots of backburners. Fine if I like to play Pyro all the time, but I do like a change every now and again.

You play hardcore for 2 weeks, thats fine if you have the time but all the while you're building up skill within the game. I don't have all the time in the world and used the idler whilst I was doing other things. It allowed me to get to a point where I may be able to enjoy the game whilst being on a level playing field with everyone else.

I'd rather have the TF2 I paid for tbh.

Let's face it, for some people including me it was a borked system to begin with, luckily I wasn't idiotic enough as some say, to idle for items using a program. But, the point is the system was a mess, and people innocently idled to gain the same advantage of certain items as the ones who were getting the drops as they weren't getting any. Obviously its fixed now and everyone is even, but for a while it looked like it wasn't going to be...hence why people idled. So for Valve to turn around and say "hey you cheated" well they wouldn't have in the first place if the drop system at the beginning was 'even' for everyone, that's my point.

It is quite funny how immaturely so much of the idling crowd is acting... If your hats are gone, so what? You never earned them in the first place. If you are upset about not getting a halo, so what? All but 11 111 didn't get the medal, but that didn't raise near as much whining. The people who did get the hats are probably people who didn't have hats when you did have a hat (which was probably not earned) and they didn't complain... now its the other way round, its unfair aye? hahahahahahaha :p have fun

Unlock weapons aren't really an advantage when its a class game. It's not like you will be using a Sniper against the Huntsman. But that's how you feel which is fair enough.

I'd rather have the TF2 I paid for tbh.
So no other weapons then? I was going to say why are you bothering but I guess it's because some weapons have an advantage. I like that they have a disadvantage as well. I don't use many unlocks tbh.

Valve didn't force them to. In some shops it's easy to steal. You just don't.

That's not really a fair comparison there were no set rules for 'idling' by saying "if you do this you will be punished etc" therefore lots of people thought it was ok since Valve said nothing about it and let it happen. The difference with this and the Law with stealing is people know its wrong to steal. With idling people at the time didn't know it was wrong since Valve had made no statement or rule about it. Now they've come out of no where and said it is wrong and you are going to be punished even if said thing was done way before the rule was put in place.

Stealing deprives someone of something (due payment, tangible item or whatever) - someone idling doesn't in any way affect your chance to get something.

Secondly you don't "earn" random drops.

Well if you idle in a server valve hasn't done anything to you I don't belief. It's only people who have used 3rd party external idling programs that mean you didn't have to have TF2 open. I think that's right any ways :P

Which is a no-no in any situation? I was using Aim-bot in CS:S and I got banned... it was helping me unlock headshots. I think it's great that valve actually did something about this rather than letting it go on adn on so when I trading/crafting system is implemented everything would be worthless.

External idling program is the same as Botting in World of Warcraft O.o = Ban, lucky everyone didn't get banned and just lost their idling items (or was it all items).

Valve lost the plot when they added the RPG random drop elements, now they have situation limited items and crafting and trading planned. I bought an FPS, not an MMO!

A good percentage of players actually want TF2 to by partially MMO based, not including myself. It does seem to be going slightly over the top but I think it's still great adding all this +5 style weapons along with hats etc. They are just a little slow at it :P
