You are comparing AMD DX though and you had crossfire, which was stuttering and a mess in DX. They (AMD) have only just fixed this with frame pacing and you are telling other AMD users how smooth Mantle is, which is great but nVidia owners have had it smooth for so long (since 2008) in SLI and you seem to think we have had the same unsmooth gameplay but really we haven't.

That would be a good argument but since amd released the r9 290x reports suggest that crossfire on dx is every bit as smooth as nvidia. Hardocp even suggest that its smoother than sli now and they were one of the main crossfire is not smooth sites.

Now if Shank can see the difference on a system thats as smooth as Nvidia then maybe Mantle is smoother than dx.

And the clock speeds to get there are far beyond normal consumer reach.
Where the AMD cards clocks anyone can get.

I can't get zpaf's clocks on my 290s. I can't even get 1100MHz on the core.

Said it before and say it again, even someone other day pointed out about DX on BF4+Nvidia feeling choppy "Who was it?"
Mantle you only after look at my gameplays I have recorded to see just how smooth the Frame rate change is. Going from 180fps down to 100fps you cant even feel the change. DX is a completely different story.

You can trust me when I say this once DX12 comes along and if its anything like Mantle you in for a treat. Nothing as of yet comes close and you can keep kidding yourself DX11 is smooth.

My 7950CF is far from smooth using Mantle in BF4. Higher FPS but irritatingly juddery.
I have to turn down settings to make it playable, which to me is sort of defeating the point. 80-100fps playable using DX or 100-120fps (limited to 120fps) and unplayable on Mantle.
If DX12 is like this then you'll have to turn your settings down with 3GB cards...

No this as been way before Frame pacing come to AMD. I never had issue with DX and AMD single GPU and Crossfire. To tell you the truth I disable frame pacing, it lowers the FPS to help smooth out.

So before Mantle even came out I had ZERO issue with DX once you tried Mantle you then get to see just how bad DX really is.
Look it this way it like playing 60hz for years looks great then you tried out 120hz and then you get to see just how bad 60hz really is. till you tried 120hz you wouldn't off know any better.

To say its just AMD crossfire issue you be completely wrong sir.

I was under the impression that mantle is still not supported on the 7 series in bf4.

I honestly think you would be better off changing to Nvidia as just about every thread you post in you don't seem to be happy with your amd setups.

Sorry to say but something is wrong with your setup then :D Have you disabled Dices frame pacing what they added in latest patch?

Check you Youtube for some Mantle goodness and then ask yourself why am I getting truly stunning performance and you not?

Edit
7000 series not supported fully by Mantle yet.

But you miss my point. Only since the 290 release has AMD had frame pacing fixed (which was December 2013?) and prioer to that, they had dropped/runt frames when using crossfire. Shankly has come from Crossfire 7970's to CF 290's?

So from 2008 to December 2013, anyone who used SLI had smooth gamplay, anyone who used crossfire had dropped/runt frames. This is why games feel smoother for AMD users ;)

Single Gpu users are saying mantle is smoother. Can you explain this? Mantle Graphs even look smoother than dx.

Frame pacing has been fixed since August last year for all affected cards. Its never been an issue on 290 cards.

Yep, AMD implemented frame pacing for single card users in August of 2013 I believe, so since then, they have had some nice smooth gameplay without the dropped/runt frames like previous :)

There is no such thing as frame pacing for single cards. Not sure where you've got that from. Frame pacing was introduced August 2013 for crossfire cards. There was a couple of games that had stutter on single cards. It was a few games, skyrim was one. That was fixed back at the start of 2013, either in January or February.

No i believe only on the 7 series it was a memory management problem that was sorted. If you want to include that then we could say the 6 series stutter bug. Single card smoothness was only down to problems with the architecture.

As Matt said above it was sorted and i don't think it was a serious problem in the main.

I don't think Mantle is optimised on the 7000 series cards, but it seems to work.
I've only recently changed from a few generations of Nvidia cards to my AMD setup because so many people on these forums were saying how good AMD was and with the 780 prices at the time (just before the price drops) it seemed like a good time to change. I thought it would be nice to change and give myself perspective. Otherwise I might be one of those people that commented on the other vendor while being loyal to a brand and therefore having a bias.
I have said before that I'm disappointed with my AMD setups as they've not lived up to what I felt I was led to believe they would. When I buy my next lot of cards I'll look and see what is available and decide then. I'm not pro-Nvidia and anti-AMD, I'm just trying to be honest.

I've not disabled Dices frame pacing, but I think last time I played was before the patch that included it. LtMatt suggested at the time that with 4xMSAA on I was exceeding the 3GB VRAM on the 7950s and that is what caused the issue. He suggested dropping to 2xMSAA to fix it and it definitely improved things and made it playable.

Not sure what is wrong with the system as it gets similar scores in most benchmarks to similar systems and seems fine in other games and even BF4 in DX11 mode. If you've any ideas what problems my system may have that only presents itself in BF4 using Mantle with Ultra settings (4xMSAA), but not with Ultra setting with 2xMSAA then I'd be interested to know.

At first I way replying on the bases you was using Xfire 290's but seeing you running 7000 series what isn't fully supported by Mantle yet you best keeping with DX am sure the Driver for 7000 series is this month ?

Yeah, will be interesting to see if it fixes it.
I guess the same problems affect the 280X, 280, 270X, etc. too?

I should use my 290CF system more, but it's just so bleedin' noisy!

Yer but you are not the best example, as you posted a vid that had tearing and you said you couldn't see it :D You did post a V-Synced vid which looked nice and smooth though.

Never posted a vsync video? if you can show me screen tear on my video it would be very helpful :D
I just honestly dont see it, but this will be down to the fact am just used to it.
