Translating the original, and more basic designs would look pretty bland on the big screen tbh. I mean these things were designed to be sold as action figures, and to be drawn for animation, so they're going to be basic. It would look to much like something out of Toy Story. Granted it would be 'faithful' but it wouldn't sell as a big budget movie. One of the biggest selling points of Transformers i to make them look 'cool'. It's not the 80's anymore. But each to their own.

Trailer looks interesting, wondering where they're going with the story.
 
Yeah the 80's G1 robots were essentially boxes stuck together with a lot of cheating during transformations. The film ones are a little over-elaborate in places but at least the transforming looks plausible (as in everything seems to fit!) and is a pretty remarkable achievement from a design and CGI point of view.

I think the actual problem with them is that Bay stuck to this annoying 'up close and personal' style of shooting the fight scenes which made it hard to see what was happening or who was doing what a lot of the time.

The first film was fairly entertaining throwaway cinema, the 2nd was awful because it was a truly incoherent and overly long mess. Supposing the 'written in 3 weeks' thing is true, then it really shows.

Whats the cheapo jap black one like? was thinking about buying one and painting it myself as a project.



love the movies so much but i love them for what they are, mindless shiny drivel, you expect too much from them and you can only be dissapointed,
after all when you was a kid you didn't give a toss about plot and dialogue big ass robots shooting big ass guns at other big ass robots was pure awesome and win all rolled up in to one animated piece of tv!

Looks OK actually. Haven't opened to box on the black one. I did for the white one as a wheel as missing in the visible side so swapped for one on the other.

I did try to transform the white one but it was so flimsy it only had one or two transforms in it before bits were going to fall off! Chinese knock offs are just that!!! Probably better to get an older original Prime.

As for the film, if you look on the net there is a fresh revelation as to the identity of one of the vehicles spotted during filming.
 
There was a trailer that showed a lot of transformers and the spaceship, it seems to have vanished, anyone else seen it, and anyone have a link to it?
 
That's not the one I watched, it showed a lot of transformers, in the city fighting, and the decepticons all gave their names and astrotrain was one among others.

I'm gutted can't find it,hope it wasn't a fake trailer. I think it must have been a fake trailer, oh well, the official one still looks amazing.

I've had a long look and I can't find anything of that description.

Just watched the first two movies again.

I reckon the 'real' reason Cat left is because the third is probably really quite ****. :(
 
I was happy until I saw the "girl staring into space with AwesomenessTM" going on in the background in slowmo. Typical Bay-ism there.

Prime gets powerups (again)

Laserbeak looks very cool but probably gets killed ala Ravage in ROTF.

The decep crashing into Ironhide has dreads and looks vaguely like a Predator.

I'll watch it, I'll buy the Bluray but I won't be happy. :)

I think this is going to be the best of all of them! although beating the 2nd film wouldnt be too hard.
 
It seems some folk in the US felt that as some of the Decepts appear to be sporting Dreads that this was racist. Only in America!

Anyway, apparently, the Autobots (well, the ones in between if the assumptions are correct) are also not afraid to rub salt into the minorities.
