very nice
any VLANs?
Surprisingly not (yet).
Current job spec is to "provide wifi" off the back of the leased line we are putting in so I'm waiting for the afterthoughts of guest wifi and VOIP QoS.

No, nothing like that. Just a laptop running the controller software and a few HD's plugged in as a server. The whole thing has been running beautifully for about a month and then suddenly this.
In the future I may try the Ubiquiti devices, although I haven't a clue what devices I would need.
Currently have VM hub3 in modem mode with an Asus ac86u router.
Whatever I change to I would want to keep the vm hub in modem mode and Im guessing I would need 2 access points , one central and one at the rear of house (somewhere my current wifi struggles).
Can anyone help me on what devices I would need to get?
Thanks
You could go with a "simple" setup of putting the VM hub back into router mode and turning off wifi then 2 of the UAP-AC-Lite's fixed where mentioned. No reason to use the additional Asus if you don't need the wireless from it. I personally use UAP-AC-LR as they're designed for mobile devices (better gain on RX) but if you wanted to push the boat a bit the UAP-AC-Pro is always a very solid choice.
Thanks, I really wanted to keep the HUB in modem mode really, just don't want to have to use any of its functions.
I understand why you say that, I'm merely poking a bees nest in asking what your Asus will do better than the VM hub? Both will route what you need and the advantages of the Asus are usually Wifi and if you need it QoS which having a fast connection like VM you probably won't. It just saves a power socket and potentially creates a re-saleable item that will cancel out some of the cost of one of the AP's.
I need some help setting up a remote user vpn. I've followed all the guides I can find on the Unifi forums etc but cannot get it to work. My setup is sky sr102>usg. Sky router is set to dmz to the usg. I've tried to use my external ip and a ddns address and I always get cannot connect. Any pointers?
Got that already setup. Just tried connecting again and I get 'The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during initial negotiations with the remote computer'. On my phone I can connect when using the IP address and can ping it from within the networkL2TP on windows? Allow MS Chap Version 2 in VPN security options. Is the usual culprit.
Yep, PoE - sorry! Not sure yet re: temperature, will have to check when I move in. If not there is a dedicated office room, could run the AP cables from around the house into there, store the PoE switch there and hook it into the router (possibly Amplifi). Are there any reference architectures for this stuff? Part numbers etc? (Thinking PoE switches, or injectors, etc)? How hot does the loft get?
I assume you mean a PoE switch not Powerline (which is something completely different)?
Looking at wiring my new house up with Ubiquiti gear, plus potentially an Amplifi router - detached house with a loft. I've no idea where to start though, any idea/suggestions?
My thinking is: Amplifi router downstairs where phone line comes up, run some Cat6 up to the loft. Powerline switch in the loft, then drop two cables down from the powerline switch to two APs; one upstairs, one downstairs. Thoughts?
