Is this a bad time to point out that you could do this on Untangle with no other hardware required? Just sayin’.

Syslog?
Did you manage to get the logs over to Glenn? It does sound like a possible HW issue though.
Sent the logs over last night.

I got to the point last night where I reset the unit, deleted the wifi config from the controller and configured it again. Same signal power, same channels, same SSID, same passwords and things are better. RX Frames on the unit are 50% on the 2.4Ghz band.

Meant to have a look at retries this morning, but didn't have time.

Well I've gone back to unifiOS - simply restored my backup taken - could not get my VLans working properly on OpenSense or Firewalla. Restoring my USG has everything back up and running.

I'll give it a go again in the new year when I've got a bit more time - really rather not have to drop money on a unifi solution for multigig!

So our main network is 192.168.1.xxx range

There's a few CCTV cameras that are set to static addresses - 192.168.21.xxx range, is there anyway I would be able to access these through VPN?

I've tried so far to create a new network with that range, I can successfully ping the UDM SE (192.168.21.1) but can't seem to ping the cameras (Reply from 10.255.255.0: Destination host unreachable)

Am I missing a step here?

10.255.255.0
Is that a local network where you are trying to VPN from?

What VPN config do you have exactly? Sounds like you're trying to get to your 'local' default gateway, and it doesn't know the camera IP range.

The VPN client on your device should have a rule to get to the camera network via the VPN tunnel.

Not sure what 10.255.255.0 relates to.

My local network and the remote network are both 192.168.1.xxx range

L2TP VPN to the UDM SE, with "Use default gateway on remote network" ticked

I've tried port forwarding 80/443 to one of the 192.168.21.*** devices and that doesn't appear to work either ... so maybe something else is the issue (as these are existing cameras from previous tenant .. maybe there's some other settings at play that I'm not aware of)

10.x.x.x is a local private range like 192.168.x.x or 172.16.x.x and it’s a very common IP range for Dahua, Hikvision etc. to default to if they‘ve been on an NVR.

Aha it's possible that the cameras were configured to only be used with a specific NVRs internal network and that's why.

They're Avigilon cameras, I've just tried the config tool on the local network , and no luck either .. doesn't detect the cameras at all, even when trying to add them manually. Looks like someone might have to go up on a ladder and just factory reset them all.

OK, so you may need to pay the Avigilon tax and get them turned in on their app.

I haven’t sold Avigilon in a while but they were basically among the very best cameras on the market.

If you’re lucky you can manually reset them and find them on the 169.254.x.x 255.255.0.0 subnet.

If you’re unlucky they’ll be cloud cameras and unless you pay the Avigilon tax you’ll never be able to use them.

Ah crap, no idea which model these are to be honest. They're 6M+ up in the air, so will have to get them factory reset manually once someone can reach them.

Only decided to keep them as they were already there .. if not usable we'll just have to change them out with our own Hikvision cams.

Avigilon stuff is great but they absolutely know it and set their pricing accordingly.

Have used Hik/Dahua for quite some time (in combination with Surveillance station) and been very happy, some running for over 10 years. I've seen Avigilon / Meraki etc. camera pricing before and it's just way too expensive!

I’m not sure it is excessive. There is no doubt that Hikvision and Dahua make a good product at a good price. If you want genuinely better then Avigilon are genuinely a step up in construction and software.

If you can get them running then they’re extremely good.

Hello folks

I'm currently using a full unifi setup (2 x USW, U6LR, IWHD, flex minis etc.) with my router being a USG 3P in to the Fibre ONT. I've been watching the slow improvements to the UDM Pro/SE line but in reality what I need at the moment is something that I can stick between the router and the switches that can allow me to add parental controls to any device connected to my network and manage access to sites, site analytics etc. I've seen hte Firewalla stuff and I have no objection to purchasing a unit if they are actually any good but happy to also spin up a VM, a RpI or small low powered unit and run dedicated software as well.

Is there any device/software that people could recommend that offers decent parental controls by device/user, MAC or IP etc.?
