woohoo finally toppled the 900 mark
everything as listed, clocks were 3.8 on the cpu and 900/1200 @ 1.250v on the 5850 extreme :D

First play around with my new HD 6870 Hawk. OC'ed to 975 MHz Core, 1150 MHz memory. CPU unlocked to quad core and running at 3.6 GHz.

Score: 946

This might sound really stupid but I have no idea how to get a picture of my benchmark results into this post! Only way I've ever uploaded images before was by linking to a URL. Any help for a noob would be much appreciated! :D

Save the benchmark to a folder somewhere, it'll save it as a .html file for viewing in your browser

open the file, click start on windows, type in snipping tool if you have windows 7, drag the cursor across the screen to grab the picture, save it as whatever

upload picture to photobucket, imageshack, copy the link wrapped in

This should do the trick - thanks for the help Seraph!

Seraph - I'll bet your 5850 Extreme at those clock settings would probably beat my 6870 in most games. The only reason the 6870 is scoring higher in this benchmark is the added tesselation requirements which I think the 6xxx series are more efficient with.

It would be interesting to see a plot of benchmark scores vs core/memory overclocks for different cards though to see where the benefit is coming from. Maybe on a rainy day I'll run 10 or so benchmarks at different clock settings and plot a graph...

oh i know my 5850 would beat your 6870 in mosts games :p
main reason i haven't upgraded yet :D

This is trifire 5970 + 5850 running @ 725MHz/1000MHz

So i then thought i'd run it at the stock 5850 settings which is @ 765MHz/1125MHz

Cute i think i'll leave it at that, the 5970 will run @ 925MHz/1250MHz (far as i've bothered to push it) but i don't see much point in it.

Didn't think this was too bad considering no over clock on card. Got the MSI Hawk version so may try and get it to 900/2000 then try but I've just bought it so don't wanna see smoke.

meh, can't go any higher :(
cpu @ 3.8ghz, 5850 at 920/1200

Damn you Seraph! I managed to get my XFX 5850 on Catalyst 11.7 through a bench run at:

1000Mhz core
1250MHz mem
1.25v vcore
Max core temp 52C
Max VDDC temp...133C

And I STILL only got 913!! How the hell is yours getting more than me, CPU you reckon? I had a slightly higher max FPS but quite a bit lower average.
Since my highest VDDC temp hit 133C during that run I'm a little worried about running too many more benchies up near those settings..the core only hit 52C though thanks to a Thermalright Shaman on the card :D

Great cooler, but does not address the VDDCs comic temperatures on the stock 5850 design I have!
