Official vs Real World Fuel Economy

Mine is usually out by about 1-1.5 mpg maximum. Not bad really.

I found the one in the Punto to be pretty acurate. My Ocatvia seems to be about 3 out these days but I always do tank to tank and reset the trip so I pay little attention to it really.

What engine does your Punto have? The 1.4 16V Starjet in ours seems to give fuel economy ranging from mildly disappointing through to shockingly bad when looking at the quoted figures :(

That said the average on the punto is only .1 mpg behind my best ever in the Octavia and that is comparing mainly town average to my best which was achieved on a Norwich to NEC and back run :o

Claimed combined on my Honda Civic 2.2 i-ctdi is 55.4.
Managed this over the the last 7 days (seen this thread last monday), I'd say 70% town driving with 30% dual carriage way/motorway driving.
Got to admit though I have been taking it easy, mainly due to fuel prices.

I have the T-Jet. 1.4 16v Turbo. Get between 30-35mpg around town, and between 38-43mpg on the motorway (speed/weather depending).

That's very good real world economy for a 2.2L engine.

Wifes car - 2009 Ford KA 1.3 TDCI claimed 68 mpg, actual 57.9 mpg (last 2750 miles driven fairly hard mixed journeys)

My car - 2006 Citroen C2 VTS claimed 40.1mpg, actual 35.9 mpg measured over the last 1600 miles mixed driving.

I can't complain with what my near 160000 mile "ticking timebomb" achieves, about 220 of those 360miles on the clock are motorway miles but even then I still had a boot full of luggage & 2 people in the car.

Admittedly i am careful how I drive as I do so many miles especially with the current prices!

Update:

A round trip of nearly 274 miles to Stroud, Gloucestershire including some extra local driving has given me a calculated average of at least 52 mpg (don't have a fuel computer so have to calculate manually) which is much better. My driving style is now smoother, with less driving at 70 mph+ (indicated).

Much happier! This is more like I'd expect from a 1.25L Fiesta. Just need cruise control now (and more comfy seats, more noise insulation, etc, etc).

Official figures for my Insignia VXR:

Fuel consumption (urban) 17.9 mpg
Fuel consumption (extra urban) 37.2 mpg
Fuel consumption (combined) 26.6 mpg

I get between 20mpg and 21mpg per tank and that doesn't include any motorway driving on a regular basis. I may do between 20 and 50 motorway miles a month but its not needed for work. Each time I fill up I reset the counter and it#s usually back to 20 quite quick :)

I do live just off a dual carriage way though which I need to take everyday and I make sure i'm not beaten from the lights :)

STI with PPP

Urban - 21.72 mpg
Extra Urban - 27.15

Only started using a fuel app about 8 fills ups ago, so a good idea of the mpg. Seen 30mpg+ on a long steady motorway run. Trip computer shows an average of 24.6mpg cover 5k and a bit miles.

I mentioned earlier I was getting 47ish mpg on my 30 mile commute in my S60 D5. I picked up a puncture at the weekend and im stuck with my space saver spare for the next few days unfortunately. I have been taking it easy as a result and im getting circa 55 mpg which is some difference.

30mpg+ in a ppp sti

pull the other one its got a prius on it

I don't track mine as it's pointless.

I have got 300 out of a tank before now, and also 110. My commute is not stable enough to draw conclusions between them. Will it meet book figure if I drive to the spec for that figure? Probably.

Is that 70%/30% in terms of time or distance? As obviously 7 hours town/3 hours motorway is very different to 70 miles/30 miles :p

Sorry just seen this now, distance. I do quite a lot of short trips round town for my job going between sites.

Had to fill up today as the fuel light came on, got the most out of the last tank that I have, 507 miles at 52.7mpg overall.

Have you checked how accurate that is though? I've heard people talking about Mondeo trip computers being up to 10mpg out.

I had to drive Norwich to Kings Lynn and back yesterday which is about 100 miles round trip of 30 to 60 mph A road and my trip computer said that I got 44mpg in both directions... no way on gods green earth is that right :p
