** Official World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Thread **

ok, I live on a s*** island where there is nothing to do really, when I played I stayed up till 3/4 oclock in the morning as I was high ranking PVP and PVE some times we had to raid till late when there was new content. I did make new "e-friends" who I spoke to most days on vent/skype.

I didnt play any games what so ever before I played warcraft. So I quit my job because I was too tried to do it from playing that game, I was assistant manager in a supermarket.

I gained abit of weight because I couldnt be bothered to go to the gym ( I wasnt obese by any means but i lost some definition ).

I just think now, if I didnt start playing the game when I was 20 I would be in great shape with a decent job for quite a few years.

As for regret for wasted time, im back in shape and dont play any games again, im in college full time, I dont feel as though I am wasteing time now.

Summary: I honestly all in all wish I had not started playing the game and would just like to warn others about how addictive it can be even especially if you are new to online gaming.

Sounds like it is you that had a problem, not the game. Most people can quite happily balance their life and not revolve it around a MMO.

Yea I've heard a lot of similar stories too. Doesn't mean theres a problem with the game. Just a problem with a lot of people. I personally just do not see how you can get that sucked into a game that you practically destroy your life over it.

Be as sarcastic as you wish with your "ur obv just too cool for skool" comments. But the fact of the matter is your case the problem was with you. Myself and quite a few of my RL friends and "e-friends" live perfectly normal lives without WoW or any other MMO for that matter without taking the game too seriously... because thats just all it is a game. A way to kill time and enjoy it.

It is so amusing because WoW was not by a long shot the first MMO on the PC and it certainly will not be the last. Not to mention all the other types of online games such as BF, CoD, TF2, fifa, starcraft 2, EVE and a load more. Yet people rant on WoW more than others.

Almost everything you've said there you've felt the need to justify or reason.

I find it hard to believe you for that reason! You don't need to explain every reason or try to make out every bad thing - wasn't so bad.

Nobody is going to **** you off whatever happend during those few years of playing.

WoW is addictive like you said, I played similar to you and gained a good few stone like many who played silly hours a day, it is an addiction. BUT I enjoyed it, had a great time and made many friends until I stopped playing last Christmas.

I'm tempted to re-sub for the Diablo 3 free game/beta promo. The only real reason stopping me is the fact my wife absolutly hated me playing it :p

There's a lot more people playing WoW than any other MMO so it's only normal to hear so much rubbish.

But I think you're being a little harsh on the addiction thing, its just like any other addiction - alcohol, drugs, smoking etc it can be hard to stop especially if you have addictive nature to completing things (ie must get all achievements etc even if you're not enjoying most of it (Insane title comes to my mind)).

Maybe I am being harsh. If a person who has serious addiction be that a game, alcohol, smoking whatever it does not mean you should go around telling everyone that it is pure evil.

I know a couple of people who have dealt with alcohol addiction yet I do not see them preaching to people that alcohol is evil and you should not try it at all or drink anymore if you do drink. You know why because people have a choice in life. We are Humans we are "meant" to be the most intelligent animal on this planet. We learn from mistakes everyone has boundaries and you learn through experience what you can and cannot deal with. If playing wow sucks you in so much that you simply cannot control your life because all you think about is the game. Then quitting is the best move because that individual (this isn't aimed at anyone) simply cannot deal with the moderation. That said it does not mean that others cannot keep the control and it also does not mean you should go around making meaningless accusations about the game when realistically the example given is a personal experience. Its find to discuss how it affected you, but to just outright condemn a game because it destroyed your life personally is out of order.

I agree mate.

Pretty much agree with the other part of your post, which I didn't quote.
