Lots of crap tanks that don't wait for CC and die before you can get your first heal of, or run of and pull as your drinking and have no mana. Never mind line of sight or damage reduction. Healing can be a real drag and after a while healers call quits and stop using the LFG tools. Which is way there are lots of crap healers.
Added to which are DPS who still don't know how to manage their aggro, avoid CCed mobs and stand in the fire (as it were) expecting the healer to keep them alive. I'm ilvl346 (gemmed, reforged & enchanted to the hilt) and just started hitting 15k or so on bosses in HCs, but the amount of times my fellow DPSers have caused wipes in HC pugs is unreal - then I feel bad when the tank or healer announces 'DPS are tards' before rage-quitting, even though I know it's actually the
other DPS that are tards.
Frankly, even though more than half of HC pugs are now successful, it still amazes me that there are so many fail groups forming - you can normally tell by the first boss whether your group's destined to fail or you're just rolling with the inexperienced, who'd do fine with a little instruction and the off wipe here or there. I'm more than happy to take an extra 30mins to complete a run if I can help out someone who's not doing so good. Within the last week I stayed behind with a fury warrior when the rest of the group ragequit to explain exactly where he was going wrong (aoe'ing cc mobs, not avoiding damage), waited for 10 mins while he ported out to reforge and back in and pugged a team back together to finish - he did fine after that, one wipe on Throngus (bear tank ftl) and no other issues. I've only been playing for 6 months or less, so I know how frustrating it is to be expected to know everything when nobody will take the time to tell you.
Edit:
Is WoW still popular?
After I get through some of this work at college I'm thinking of adding a month sub but dunno whether to do it or not?

Yes, like crack cocaine. I'm personally past the initial buzz now, into the steady pleasure of indulging without letting it affect my real life, but there are clearly a great deal of washed-up, toothless crack whores hanging around the street corners in Orgrimmar because they've got nothing else going on in their lives. Some are so wrapped up in their addiction that they speak nothing but garbled gibberish (SP lfg BoT TR ilvl347 /w) and I often need the assistance of crack-whore translators to help me understand it. Bottom like, it's like the most awesome rollercoaster you've ever seen. Brief, dizzying moments of intense highs, interspersed with long periods of tedious waiting, and if you want to get to the good parts you have to wade through a great deal of other people's vomit because the cleaners (GMs) don't do their jobs properly. Occasionally a crying child is dragged away by a responsible adult, and the air is constantly filled with the sound of screaming cretins, but you persevere because maybe,
just maybe, you'll get to ride the ride this time.
