** Official WoW Catalysm Alpha/Beta Thread **

why dont they just buff warrs and leave DKs the way they are ?

DKs are actually pretty good tanks now and pretty fun to play. I dont see the need to constantly nerf other tanksto fall in line with the tanks that are considered worse off.

meh.... I just hope they dont cripple DKs to the point again where they went from being the best tank in game to the worst in one foul hit.

I've been leveling a paladin tank (off spec heal) with a friend who is using a resto druid (ferl tank offspec).

So far from my limited tanking experience on paladins, they are easier to tank with than a DK. Not saying I prefer the Paladin, but the rune system on a DK can be so frustrating compared to the unlimited mana (thanks to seals and sanctuary) of a paladin. Also the AOE tanking of a paladin is so easy.

I might change my mind if and when I get the paladin to 80 though.

Paladins have always been easy to tank with, and the kings of aoe tanking. Prior to now, the only thing you had to plan in a 5 man instance was the use of Divine Plea to make sure it stayed up or you might run into mana issues. That is no longer the case.

On bosses/raid trash you were always being healed so you didn't have mana problems anyway then.

DK tanking was fun when you could be unholy, its quite mundane now but I understand what Blizzard have done and it did need doing :p

What upsets me is that there are STILL DK's using Blood Presence for DPS, FOR GOD SAKE  :p

I still don't like that DK's are even in the class.

I don't mind it as much no though as when they first came out. Usually in games a class like the DK is an extention of another. It worked brilliantly in D&D set games.

I don't like the Idea of just starting at 55 as a death knight, there's no real backstory nothing. I'd have like to play as my character, go on a special quest chain that slowly led to one becoming a Death Knight.

Bah enough DK rubbish. :P

What I'd really like back in this game is Faction Specific armour like the old lvl 60 PvP sets. They actually suited he theme of each faction. Now Everyone looks the same.

lol one of my guildies still keeps doing that :p

She is one of our tanks but she wants to go dps for cata. Its nps for the guild. But its so funny when she dps's now in raids.

You just see her threat go up and up and up then BOOM one shot its really not a good idea to be pulling the LK as a dpser or Hailon for that matter on HM.
Her excuse is she keeps forgetting that she shouldnt use blood presence for dps anymore.... /groan. That shes not used to it. Best not be doing it in cata raids or she wont be in raids for too long :p

I have to say though as a DK now tanking (offspec) I still find myself diseasless tanking more often than not. More so in PUGs because dps just do not give you a second. By the time I have gotten diseases and spread and BB/DnD. DPSers are already aoeing the hell outta things and pulling. So now I generally DnD on pull BB a couple of times (depending on amount of mobs) RS when I can and HS a bit. Then once I am happy with the threat I got I then apply the diseases and start DSing.

So, whos dressing up on release day :p

Good god no.

Oh dear. Surely someone so incompetent isn't worth taking to raids? :(

Unless of course you are a casual guild then I can understand some leniency!

There are a huge amount of terrible female players who seem to think they can get away with it just because they are girls, which unfortunately due to the male nerd populace of the game seems to work for them, but I cant stand it! (Not saying your friend is like that, just another observation :p)

Well, they haven't always been easy to tank with. Did you ever play one in TBC? :D

These days the hardest part seems to be making sure Righteous Fury doesn't fall off. And I think they even stopped that.

Well she used to be one of our MT's and she was really good at it too tbh.

The guild I am in is a pretty hardcore raiding guild. So well we shall see. There are already a few people in the guild that I think will end up leaving or getting kicked b4 85 sooo... we shall see.

As for female players *shurgs* we have 4 female chars 2 play really well the other two suck balls :p But then again the 2 that suck are not raiders just erm "guest cows" so they are just there for the social aspect.

But if the DK in questions doesnt catch on quick that she needs to use UH presence and well learn how to play dps and gem and reforge she will be kicked for the raiding group. Even at the moment she has better gear than me, 277 pretty much every slot. I have a couple of 277s and mostly 261. Yet I beat her every time on dmg done on just about every boss. So mmm she needs to learn quick. I don't know why the sudden change tbh. Maybe she's bored of tanking.

I have only played with one TRULY good female player and that was a priest in Last Resort. (When I say truly I mean to the point of being indistinguishable from 'one of the boys' in skill and ability)

I fell in love when she saved our Immortal Nax run on Kel'Thuzad. Someone disconnected and a void zone landed on them - she had Divine Intervention on them before it popped and the player logged back in alive. /swoon.

Note - This was back when Immortal runs meant no deaths, on any boss, ever. Not the toned down ez-mode version.

They were easy to tank with in TBC, granted I didn't have one then but had to tank Illidan on a friends one and most of Sunwell, I had no trouble at all. Unless you meant the very start of TBC?

The only skill required is the general tanking skill that good tanks have, the button mashing is fairly straight forward on most classes when it comes to PvE, and that includes tanks.

I've played with two very good ones, one of whom is now an officer in Paragon. In fairness there are probably quite a lot of good female players, but they are let down by the general consensus that 'girls = trouble' that many guilds have.

It was around the mid-time of Mount Hyjal that paladins became viable tanks, before that they were toys, like Shadow Priests used to be some guilds saw the niche potential and used them but they were never mainstream.

Warriors are still the most involved tanking class and that's why I still chose to play nothing but a warrior tank.

The stigmata is indeed true but to the contrary there are females who believe they are good because their egos are stroked by pre-pubescent teens who would never utter a single bad syllable about their ability for fear of messing up that one chance of pics from IRL they hope for.

I miss the old shadow priest style. Everyone loved you and wanted you in their group as you were a mana battery :(

Replenishment? Rubbish

Tell me about it. It all went to pot after Sunwell.

It used to MATTER how much effort you put in. I played with 2 other VERY capable Shadow Priests in Last Resort. At M'Uru I did all the mass dispelling and could still come out on-top of both of them by a good margin. I put in SO much attention to detail, min-maxing the opening cast sequence with 5/5 weaving stacks, using SWD perfectly to link to Mind Blasts on Cooldown, re-casting dots before they dropped so that they landed within milliseconds of dropping. WTB this again :(

That is simply not possible anymore, 90% is RnG luck with procs and crits and the remaining 10% is being able to follow a somewhat standard rotation.

Kind of half the reason I am a tank now, one of the few roles left where what you put in has a tangible effect.

SO don't post the link then ! (Derp derp, since when was warning and linking and issue? Live Leak stuff gets linked and no issues)- Ahh good old days *reminisces* (WARNING - link MAY contain language)

General question here. What happens on December 7th if I don't buy Cata and just log in to WOW using my existing Burning Crusade+WOTLK version?
Will I see the revamped areas or the old areas? Not sure if I will buy it straight away but don't know if that will mean I can't play at all.

I wondered about this for new players. I think you will see everything as it was before, and then if you get Cataclysm, it updates, I'm not sure though. Its a good question and one that hasn't really been answered yet.

reading on MMO Champ that the shattering should hit live servers next week.

Does anyone know if the 4.0.3a patch will add the new race combinations, not worgen and goblin but like troll druid, blood elf warrior etc?

I think the shattering patch might add the new race combinations, definately not Worgens/Goblins though.
PTR 4.0.3a - Build 13316

The shattering happened on PTR 4.0.3, the login screen is the one shipped with Cataclysm and the world is changed forever!

This build is already tagged as (Release), if there isn't any major bug you can totally expect patch 4.0.3a on live servers next week.

Goodbye Azeroth as we know it... :p
