A girl I work with has just got her first car after driving her mum's car for a few months.

Not a bad car, a P (97?) plate 106. Its in nice condition, has a nice set of alloys on it, i'd be proud of it.

However, her first comment on it: "Its ancient, its 8 years old!"

I'm sorry, but how can a car thats only 8 years old be 'ancient'?! She's been complaining about the lack of air conditioning and PAS - how the hell is she going to learn to drive properly if she's expecting to drive a brand new car all the time?

I kindly informed her that 2 of my cars were older than her, yet both were perfectly good cars. She just laughed and asked why my parents didn't buy me a newer car

Anyone else seen/heard anything like this?

yes from 2 of my younger sisters before they passed their test however on having a car bought to them second hand of course they seemed to realise that cars were quite expensive!

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Show her the pic of my truck and tell her she could have neded up with it instead!!

Ungrateful little snot!!

thats what I was thinking. Apparently she's only working there (pub) so she can 'do her bit for the common good' - the next time she says that in front of me she's going to get a proper verbal dressing down.

Did her parents buy her a car
Lucky mole she is and shes not even gratefull for it.
I have to save up and get my own with my own money.
She sounds like a litle spoit bratt

EDIT:8 years old is far from ancient imo. Sure you could get a lot newer but its still far from an old car.

This seems to be a common thing with girls. They get cars bought for them by their parents and never appreciate them. Its always- the wrong colour, not fast enough, doesn't have x y & z, its too old etc etc. So ungreatful, infact if I was the parent and they said that infront of me it would be going straight on auto trader and they can walk.

a lot of the justification i've heard is "yeah but its different for a girl, we don't want them to break down in the middle of nowhere so we didn't want to buy her anything more than 2 years old" As if newer cars are imune to breakdowns

Personally if that was my concern then they can provide the car and i'll throw in an RAC card :p

spolied

i alwasys think this is why its best to buy your own car. you appreciate it a lot more.

if my parents bought me the 306 i bet i wouldnt take as much care of it as i do now. i wash it every week always looking clean and tidy. but thats because i know its what i worked for and i'm proud i got it all myself etc

Mickey I have great respect for anyone who can restore an English car outside of the UK. The parts are a nightmare to find and there was no-one to talk to about it until the internet came along. Hats off sah!

Some of my friends have new cars bought for them, I couldn't really care to be honest. I can have just as much fun in an infinitely cheaper car.

I'll list a few:

Renault Clio 1.2 16v Extreme 4 - £9k
Ford Ka 1.3 - £???
VW Golf TDi (latest model) £15k?

My latest car cost me £350, it's faster than all those so nuuuur :p Well, maybe not the Golf but nuuur anyway :p

I had an 8year old car with AC and PAS. ;)

I've got a 34 year old car with PAS. It hasn't got AC but it was an option at the time, although I don't know of one Stag that has it. People didn't see much need for AC when the top comes off, I suppose.

It's got electric windows and servo assisted brakes too :)

My 1989 car has PAS, ABS, Cruise Control, Elec Windows, Aircon, Elec Mirrors that also electronically retract. :p:p:p

The thing is with a lot of people who don't know anything about cars (especially girls) is that they automatically think new=good, old=bad. For anyone that gets given their first car and their first comment is 'Its ancient, its 8 years old!', real life is going to turn out to be a big shock for them!
