"Ohh, its ancient!"

We have a couple of girls at work like this. Originally the comments directed at my 10 year old Mondeo were "why have you got a family car". Now I've swapped to an F reg 205 GTI I get "why are you driving an older car than the other one". I reply that it's fun to drive, and I get a buzz from owning it. The response is normally "Why, it's old? Don't you want something nice and new?"

Best trade it in for a 96 106 base model then. Nice and new compared to the 205 :D

Best not to engage these people in conversation I find ;)

leather, Electric sunroof? :D

:D Mine's got those :p

/pointless bragging post over ;)

I don't think I know anyone as spoilt as the ones I've read about in here. I've had more guys call my car an old grandad car than girls. The girls just seem to love the seats in mine.

I can certainly see the appeal in driving cars like lopez's, you don't have to worry about careless people in supermarkets with trolleys etc, if you scape it on the garden wall its no big deal etc, want to throw a load of tools and crap in the boot you won't worry about it too much, but I also like the idea of having a comfortable inside, I can see the appeal of heated seats, aircon, cruise etc, nice radio etc, rather than something thats all dirty and featureless, etc

Ancient?! My 93 Cinquecento L reg... I dont consider that ancient lol... and thats like 13 Years old...

Thats funny becuase I always thought the Almera 1.4 didn't have any extras at all, merely the bare essentials of electric front windows, PAS, central locking and AC?

Bare essentials LOL. The bare essentials are and MOT tax and insurance, anything more is a bonus. Amazing how "poor people" manage with wind up windows isn't it :)

The only 2 extras the car i own has are A/C and a toe bar.
Oh its got 4wd hi and lo but that comes standard

ITs a 15 year old Subaru L series sports wagon :)

Tell her im willing to trade.

My chevette has a speaker, lw AND mw radio (no cassette) and keep fit windows, the rear windows don't open. Only the driver gets the luxury of a door pocket, the glove box doesn't have a door (it never did, unlike my 309s where they just broke off). No head restraints, no belts in the back, a blanking plate where posh models had a cigarette lighter. It does have a heated rear windscreen though \o/. It is 25 years old though, and every bit of the car works as well as when it left the factory.

I was always amazed the Ferrari F40 didnt have electric windows, dont think the first ones had windows barely just sheets of plastic to pull back for some air.

My car is 13 years old and has nothing! All the less for me to worry about come mot time, I dont need PAS because I never go slower then 50 and I handbrake turn into parking spots :D

Hehe, i love pulling up at the lights next to a 6 year old 1.0 litre corsa, in my 15 year old car that cost a third of the price and have them staring open mouthed at what looks like university students in a luxury car.

I Leave them there as i roar away, can barely hear my own engine above the screaming 3 cylinder vauxhall pointlessly trying to keep up.

I have since decided that anyone who asks how i can afford the insurance and fuel is just jealous :)

I particularly love telling them that my group 16 Jag cost less to insure than theirs, just because it hasn't got any boy racer image...

So in my opinion, let the people who always want new cars have them, means plenty of older ones still in good condition for the rest of us.

I hate people who say things like that. A couple of girls I used to work with always judged a bloke by what he drove, which is just stupid. I went out with a guy driving a gorgeous porsche boxter and he's not a patch on my wubbly fella who had an old Escort that he looked after religiously til some fool in a Volvo hit it and wrote it off. :( I had a 1.8 Laguna Sport and they just had..well..feet, so i'd think they should be respectful of anyone who has bought their own car, even if it is an old banger. They have character anyway, my 13 yr old mini was one of my favourite cars. Really made me appreciate the newer cars I got along the way.

Those type of girls would sneer if you said your bloke drove a Ford or anything, and we'd pass them at the bus stop in the pouring rain thinking 'ha!' bet you wish you'd gone with the Escort boy now! :D

"Why, it's old? Don't you want something nice and new?"

i got the exact same from a friend when I mentioned getting a celica GT4, she said "but you could get a new fiesta and free insurance, itll be shiny and new"
