oil again

How much does it cost in Halfords? Also, how much with the trade discount. I paid nearly £60 for Mobil 1 0w40. Would I be better getting it from Halfords with my trade card?

How come you need more so soon after a service? It shouldn't be using it.

because at some point in the next 6 weeks, I'll be doing an interim oil change, after 6k miles. I used to do this all the time on previous cars when I do big mileage.

Halfords are 20% off Mobil oils, making the 0w40 or 5w30 around £40 for 5litres

That's your opinion. One, which after owning numerous diesel cars, I don't share, or particularly care to the contrary. :)

So you buy expensive long life oils and then... Throw them away after 6k miles? Madness. What's the number of diesels you have owned got to do with it, did you lose an engine to proven oil age?

Still going to happen :) I like to know that the engine is in good shape. If I want to do any oil change in 6k miles because of upcoming large mileage, and for my own peace of mind, then that's what I'll do. I really don't need an internet forum to validate my decision, thanks.

However, if you want to continue derailing, please, carry on.

Talking about oil in a thread about oil is not derailing.

Perhaps if you didn't waste money on unnecessary oil changes you wouldn't need to borrow money from Wonga? :D

Don't you know, I use Wonga just to buy oil :p

Actually looking at halfords its 5w-30 ESP. I'll have a look at a service receipt and see which grade they used last service.

Opie Oils says 5w30 for Mobil 1 ESP

Waste of money doing a 6k oil change on your car.

Agreed.

Incidentally, the oil change interval on my truck is 36,000 miles.....
