Oil on the way up again. Pump prices to go up.

Diesel owners are getting ripped off I think.

When buying a new diesel car, its usually cost £1000-£2000 more than petrol verson depending on makes/models and then pay for bit higher diesel fuel by a whopping 5p difference - works out nearly £3 per 12 gallons tank.

But diesel is great if your car is doing 50-55mpg plus but if any diesel car doing less than 45mpg then you may be better off buying a petrol version.

Also I have noticed that the quality of diesel fuel vary from station to station, some crap and some great - I noticed that from my diesel engine in term of performance, refinement and mpg.

MPG from modern petrol version has improved a bit. In new Honda Civic 1.8 petrol for example, 0-60mph of 8.9 sec and you get 44mpg! It is quite close to diesel of similar performance plus much quieter and better refinement.

Honda Jazz 1.4 petrol does 48mpg but with unleaded fuel being cheaper than diesel, it is more like 50 plus mpg.

I'm bit concerned of buying a used diesel car as I have noticed more and more people buying illegal diesel fuel in N Ireland where I'm living in and one of these people is my friend, he had huge engine bill recently after using cheap diesel for few years

Any used diesel car you are buying unwitty, could have been filled up regularly by dirt cheap diesel fuel - which is not nice!

Add to that, MOT has introduced (from March 2006) a strict emissions test for diesel cars and a couple of my friends who took their car through test recently, their tester slammed the accelerator all the way down to the floor few times in order for the smoke goes out - not nice for engine. :( Also heard that one BMW diesel owner's car broke down just after coming out of MOT centre.

For the future, ignore government's plea to buy (or install) LPG equipped car because it will be the same all over again in future like diesel now.

Dint want to start a new post...

But, prices have rose today again! This morning my local tesco was £0.92 now is £0.94 :(

I find that quite a dramatic increase! Anyone else suffered?

when we had gallons the price used to go up 2p, now its 2p a litre,i.e 10p a gallon, they'd never dare raise it 10p if we still had galllons

I passed some rural middle of nowhere garage a couple days ago, already showing 99.9p/l on diesel.

It's creeping up here now... 99.9p a litre at the local Shell for Optimax! **** that, back to normal Unleaded I think.

just filled up with BP Ultimate at 103p/l and then promptly wasted it by racing an Escort Cossie home.

Still fun tho :D

It makes me chuckle tho really. People think petrol is pricey at £1/l, but we all are quite happy to pay ~£4.80 for a litre of beer, and not sure about some of you guys, but i go through more beer some weeks than fuel :p

Yes, but beer isn't an essential thing, is it?

Some people actually need cars to do their jobs and get around... public transport is either very inconvenient or totally useless around here.

God dammit I need to fill up today/tomorrow :(

Oh well.. I will still go for the better Tesco stuff :)

Even if the optimax is £1.019 a litre, at least you are getting something for your extra money. Tesco diesel doesn't give me any extra voom ;) :(

Last time I went to fill up at Shell... it was 88.9p a litre :D

And something like 94p a litre for Optimax.

However, at another Shell station 15 miles away, it was 91p a litre for Shell unleaded
