Engine is 1.8 and uses the same INVECS II system triptronic gear found in ftos apparently.

Oh, well that's alright then.

"Yes, my car is a dull useless mini-MPV that I absolutely had to buy for...well....no reason really but it does have a nifty semi-automatic gearchange."

Buy a proper estate/station wagon.

won't you be liable for purchase price+FOB+shipping+import duty+vat then?

You speak the trutheth...

Scams do exist, but only to a certain point.

£1700 FOB
£500 Shipping
17.5% VAT
10% Import Duty
Shipping Agent Fees
eSVA - will need a model report or scam to clear
Tax & registration
Conversion, Tax, Fog Light, Speedo
Import Agents Fees (where applicable)

so you agree if the initial 1700 is purchase price+auction fees+FOB only, then there is no way that will stand the OP at less than £2k by the time he can actually drive it?

Yup

Total cost of a car at £1700 FOB would be around £4000

And yes, you need proof of import duty paid.

If its obviously low, it can be picked for investigation.

My last one was picked.

i'd say a little less, but in the same ballpark.
either the OP is seriously kidding himself or he thinks he can shaft the taxman by some method and avoid some duty.

two words..."Al" and "Capone"

You may think less on paper but it soon adds up.

you obviously have to collect the car, that takes time and money.

Simple things like that, and the fact you need a MOT for registration, makes it rise in price.

Also remember this is a 1998, and therefore requires a model report, which may or may not exist.

Again, more money.

Model report dont exist but there are ways round it (again ;) ) Things can be obtained and use accordingly, i know at least two guys who have done so. :)

1700 includes fob. Yes i will be liable for the rest but like i said, there are ways.

PS
FOB includes shipping price iirc...

Nope

FOB doesnt include shipping.

FOB is the price of the car for sale in Japan.

Free On Board

"FOB is abbreviation of "Free on board". FOB price applies for all cars exported from Japan unless you come to our yard to take a car by yourself. FOB price includes FOB export arragements in Japan (export and customs documents, documents translation), delivery of car from yards to port and loading onto the ship. Our FOB charge is one of the lowest and is only US$500 for the car to be exported from Japan. In other words FOB price equals to car price plus US$500. FOB price does not include car shipping cost to your port."

I know, ive come across these methods.

Some use the old disabled drivers loophole, others claim the car is older than it is.

All im saying is, be careful.

Some people have been caught out and left with a car they can only use on track. Its one of these things that will only hit you when the car arrives. Keep it in mind.
