Ok so I have designed something - now for the big time

DOn't delete the thread, it's been really interesting to see how you've progressed and amazing to see the actual products now.

On the whole I'm sure most people are pleased to see progress and are really pleased for you!!!

its a bit harsh that people are getting suspended for having their NAME on a photo, as its apparently advertising, yet you can waffle on for 26 pages about your toys you are going to be making money from.

Double standards.

The new XTR in Stuff! mag :-)

Apologies if it's in the thread, but what was it you made when you "accidentally invented something cool" with your laser cutter?

Slightly updated Bigtrak doesn't excite me, I was hoping for something original!

Pinter, I have a question to ask you if you don't mind.

Your laser cutter, would it be suitable for making PCB boards? (ie removing the copper where the tracks aren't).

I assume you'd have to spray the board black or something?

Thanks for any help, I have a feeling copper is too difficult, but thought I'd get some expert advice. If it wont work, I'll be looking at some sort of CNC milling machine.

edit - I know those posts were ages ago, but it seems silly to try and get this thread closed due to one jelly poster. Most other comments regarding free advertising etc look mostly tongue-in-cheek to me tbh.

Ok for all those who don't read the beginning pages, let me iterate again.

Way back when I first posted, I had invented something new which went round toy manufacturers, such as Mattel etc. This eventually went nowhere.

Then I came up with some new ideas for products, one of which is the new Bigtrak - so no invention, but I thought it would be interesting to show the progress from start to finnish.

As I said in case you missed, I have a few products retailing this year, and this thread is updated as things happen.

So either a mod can change the title to be more reflective as this thread has changed course to something like "I designed something", or just please delete it.

I'll then create new threads about the stuff, shame as this is a process from start to end, shame about the title.

He's contributed far more than you have, so I'd rather this thread here than you.

Just imo obviously.

Hi, The laser I use is a C02 type and it won't cut metal, just get it warm.

I do make PCBs on it tho' Here is how it is done:

1). Take copper board.
2). Spray with acrylic matt black (any colour will do).
3). Use laser to engrave the pcb design (burns off paint, leaves masks 0.001mm resolution)
4). Wipe off excess burnt paint.
5). Ecth in Ferric or similar.
6). Remove paint with brillo pad.
7). Admire a perfect pcb :-)

CNC is good, but noisy and messy!

Ahah! That's a cracking idea, thank-you.:) I currently use press-n-peel, which works, but is a pain in the backside quite frankly.

I'll take another look, I might end up getting a CNC, purely as I need to cut soft ali occasionally, so might as well get a CNC straight away...

You don't know any good second hand suppliers perchance?

Cheers.

could always use UV + etching fluid?

if you get a cnc machine you should look into making stuff like this http://www.amainhobbies.com/product...chined-Slash-2WD-LCG-Conversion-Kit-Gun-Metal and ebaying it ;)

theres loads of opertunities for making some nice money with a CNC machine making aftermarket rc bits for helis and cars

the few companies that do it are mostly american so its a pain in the bum getting bits if you live in the uk

Re UV method - It kind of solves one of the ball-aches, but sounds a bit faffy tbh. Thanks tho.:)

Arknor, I was thinking about this, it does open up a lot of possibilities. We're just waiting to hear back from a seller now, we may be ending up with a CNC machine made up of pure win.:D
