Old age sucks ***

I’m 60 next year and every little scratch takes way, way longer to heal than they used to.
Same age as me. My sympathies. I have back problems, Right middle finger clicks and aches most days. Right hip pain on cold damp days. Can't see as well as I used to. Hearing getting worse. I must be getting old as that is the number one subject of old people talking to each other.... :p

I had my first ever afternoon nap today , but that may have been due to a couple of bottles of red last night.
Either or, not something I want to get used to.

Managed to spasm a muscle in my lower back, despite no noticeable issue during training (deadlifts). Another reminder... :D

I did something similar recently.

Been doing squats followed by rdls.

Did it on Tue. No issues what so ever all Wed. However woke up on Thu with my back tight as if I pulled something.

Not fun. Dropped the rdls.

I've got issues with both knees.

Both shoulders have also had varying issues as well over the years.

Workouts have had to be modified to accommodate injuries.

I can't 45d leg press atm due to it making my left knee very sore.

I can't use dumbbells anymore since causing a partial dislocation in my left shoulder back in 2015. Thankfully barbells are fine and don't cause me issues.

43 gonna be 44 this year. :/

My left knee went 'weird' few months back, got that 'weak' feeling in it. Never experienced this before, turning 50 this year so already old.

Knees are essential.

Safe advice from that PHD weightlifter guy from the YouTube shorts. When your old, lift to keep healthy, don't go 'HEAVY'!

Absolutely. If it won't fit in a pint glass, then don't try to life it.

It does indeed suck. I still like to use weights so just switched to kettlebells to keep injury risk low. Bit of mobility work and stretching, walking etc. and that's enough. It's all about maintenance for the long term now.

Over 50 and starting feel motivated to get fit again.

In my 20s I used to deadlift and one arm all the fill stacks.
Turned over my ankle playing basket ball.

In my 30s I used to mountain bike 24 miles cross country every sunday and did the london to brighton ride.

I used to snowboard a couple of times a year and had a cracking (rib) time with whiplash etc

Did kick boxing sunday, monday, tuesday, wednesday, and thursday - both helping beginners and doing intermediate but stopped doing brown belt due to I could not risk injury doing contracting. KB help restrengthen my ankles.

Then ran a lot in the forrest.. but then settles down with mrs and only did a period of walking to work.

For the last umpteen years I’ve been wfh, tried to get fit swimming but covid hit. The swimming was on command of the chiropractor to strengthen spinal support.

I did a week health break with mrs, got fit quickly and the mrs continued with a all female bootcamp nearby ans is doing a 26 mile walk soon.
I stopped because the guy options are a distance away.. same with the swimming..

So I’m infit, and need to start getting fit. I’ve started walking last week but this week is my chance to get more with an hour a day planned..

I have alao been taught to re rotate my vertebrae using the support muscles by a second chiropractor which is great for supporting. It’s weird hearing every thing click back into place without touching them!

At the moment it takes a couple of days to recover :/

I had the mad idea to play a few snaps in place of coaching this year at the age of 42. I played American football for 18 years... Why do I do it to myself?

Yep, the joys of getting old :p

I regularly tweak my back these days. At 52 though, I feel I'm in pretty good shape, do a bit of running still and keep my weight under 12 stone :)

I used to warm up with 60kg on the flat bench, Crank out 30 reps or so. Then up to 200kg for reps..
Not trained in 13 years until a couple of months back... Not yet hit my old warm up weight as Max.
21 inch arms down to 14.5

Brain says yeah, Body just laughs.... Yeah Buddy sure

I done my back in about March/April 24.

I'd been swinging my kettle bell around as usual, had a shower, then about half an hour of doing whatever.

I needed to go out, so bent over to put my shoe on, and it went. No weights, no nothing, just bent down to reach my shoe.

I was ****** for about 3 weeks, first 3 days I could barely wipe my own arse, I could .... Just about... do it with immense agony.

On the second day I fell asleep on the sofa watching TV before bed, when I woke up, I was honestly 50/50 whether I would be able to get myself upstairs. I had to kinda drag my myself off the sofa using my upper body.

It was twingy for easily 6 months after, if not longer. Fortunately now it's ok.

But yes, it's not fun.

This is me now. Would recommend the book by McGill. Now its ok is the best time to look after it. Helped me no end in the past, then got lazy because it was 'fixed'.

I'm regularly working out these days, most weekdays I'll do about 50/60 press ups and sit ups, swing my kettle around a few times a week and walk for an hour most days.

I'm no gym buddy, nor do I claim to be any kind of athlete, really what I do is probably the bare minimum anyone should be doing.

But it's better than nothing, and touch wood it's been ok for a while.
