Old Trafford being evacuated

So, long story short:

Manchester United bomb scare was caused by security blunder after dummy device was left in Old Trafford toilet BY MISTAKE

The device at Old Trafford was mistakenly left on the pipe during a security drill on Wednesday.

:o:o

Oh dear.

Surely any half decent security company would track it's assets and the post exercise debrief would cover this sort of thing so it couldn't be missed?!

Someone's Monday isn't going to be fun! :D

Man Utd will refund all ticket holders and then offer free entry to them. Applies to both sides. Will cost around £3m.

Too right!

This security firm can't be much good, failing to find a "bomb" that they themselves planted... :(

Somebody somewhere this afternoon will have heard about the game being abandoned and the details around what was found and where and they'll have had a sudden dawning realisation that they left it there.

How long do you reckon it took them to 'fess up? :p

Part of me wonders whether it really was "accidentally" left behind or whether it was done so they could conduct a 'real world' exercise. Then part of me wonders why you'd choose the last day of the season to do it. Then the first part of me says the last day is as good as any when it comes to league matches, as it is the match least likely to have a bearing on anything important.

Seen a few people asking the question on twitter, how and why wasn't this spotted during the pre match sweep of the stadium.

I remember going on holiday a day or so after the terror attack on Glasgow Airport in 2007, when security was supposed to be at it's highest and only when I arrived in Cyprus and was unpacking did I notice I had a penknife and a lighter in my hand luggage.

Surely you wouldn't let it get out of hand to the point that it calls the game off and ruins thousands of people's day though?!? Maybe check someone finds the device and evacuate the ground but at that point say it was a dummy device.

There was a guy from Sierra Leone come to that game according to the bbc! If you'd spent thousands of pounds to come to the game you'd be more than a little annoyed if they'd done it on purpose!!!

Apparently the security company that left the fake bomb in the toilet by mistake, are saying Fergie time came into play during the drill which caused it to be forgotten about on Wednesday.

Except a sizeable proportion of the ticket holders won't be able to go on Tuesday, so the free ticket won't apply and the club can just sell it... so the hypothetical max figure isn't realistic, if that's what that figure is. It also ignores the travel/hotel costs many will have incurred (and eg. might not able to afford again).

How will Utd even know these tickets are unwanted, let alone sell them?

I expect to hear 'Standby for Operation Old Trafford Exercise' bleated out over the tannoy every game from next season onwards when they employ a security chief.
