Wow, they're showing "Oldboy" on channel 4. I'm impressed. Oldboy is one of my all-time favourite movies. Superbly twisted, and fantastic plot/character development thoughout.

Never thought I'd see this one on British TV.

Predictable twist? Hmmmm, I wouldn't say the twist in this was wholly predictable :/ I think it's a very good film. Not all Asian cinema is, in fact a majority is OI. Although I am a massive foreign cinema fan. I only have two Asian films, and I bet you can easily guess the second ;)

^ :o ooops! Naughty me :) Sorry :p

I saw it coming a mile away, although I confess, most people didn't.

It wasn't a bad film, just a typical 'Its asian, its AMAZING" affair"

As you can tell, very few Asian films impress me...

I rarely use this, but... <-- tbh.
I won't stoop to such a level to rolleyes back, but a good film doesn't deserve the praise of a great film.

I understand your comment about people thinking it's 'cool to like asian cinema,' I've often overheard people making stupid comments trying to be 'cool' in front of their mates, but I'd say this film deserves the credit it gets. It is a good film. Great story and very nicely shot.

Told you you'd get it. Yep, BR. Haha. I'm sure many people will disagree with me thinking it's a good film, but I like the concept. I think it's worth owning.

Then you are either small minded, OR havn't seen enough east-asian cinema. ;)
I havn't seen too much Asian cinema I confess (I have only seen the films that gain acclaim over here), but you couldn't come across as more of a fanboy :/

How does it make me small minded to not enjoy Asian cinema? It often has a thin plot, is confusing, and relies on violence. Although again, thats not true to all (I quite enjoy a few studio ghibli films!).

One thing that does deserve credit in oldboy is the fight scene, very well done and all in one take from what I remember of the directors commentary :/

That is an interesting point. Only the other day I was discussing with a friend how most westerners couldn't even name a single Japanese non-animated movie which isn't violent.

There is a big difference between the things which are actually popular in east asia, and the things we hear about over here.

I have it on DVD but like some movies, once you've seen it once, it's hard to sit through it again when you know the twist.
