Olympic Athletics

Poor Tyson Gay. He showed some real class to do that interview. My heart went out to him. Hopefully Gatlin will fail another test and Gay can get that medal.

It boggles me that Gatlin is still allowed to run. Personally I think all drugs bans should be for life - has anyone ever studied the longterm effects of drugs? Can we sure Gatlin isn't still benefiting from their effects.

I really like Tyson Gay, it's a pity he suffered an injury because he's a truly immense athlete. Were it not for Bolt, he'd be a legend.

I hadn't noticed it before but Usain reminded me a bit of Omar from The Wire when he did his victory pose in your vid simulatorman.

Cometh the hour cometh the man, what an awesome race that was, the 100m final. Usain didnt get a great start but my god he just blasted by everyone else to take the gold and defend his olympic title and in the process setting a new Olympic record.

I know a lot of people were saying that he was past it but he showed last night that hes far from past it. What a sprinter.

Hes meant to defend his 200m title as well, hoping he does it. Does anyone know when the 200m final is??. I think its Thurs this week iirc. And what about the the mens 4x100m relay?? any ideas as to when thats being run??

As for Gatlin??...its mind boggling that the 'druggie' is still allowed to race, personally drug cheats should be banned for life simple as that. They cant say they didnt know, they should be asking what is in their diets...ignorance isnt an excuse and im absolutely gutted that Tyson Gay didnt get the bronze as hes an immense sprinter in his own right.

EDIT: mens 4x100m relay final is Sat 11th Aug at 9pm and 200m final is 9th of August.

Glad you enjoyed it simulatorman! I had a great time there too and have loads of pictures. Unfortunately I forgot to take my spare SLR battery which decided to give up the ghost 15 minutes before the 100m final!!

The seats we had were....a little different!! Here's my video of the 100m final that I managed to get with my old little camera. The bottle ****** (person who tosses) was a few rows in front:

Ive been watching the Olympics mostly online (fantastic coverage and technology).
Some events, like with the womens pole vault is being shown without commentary.
For me, without commentary, watching athletics seems soul-less. Commentary is absolutely essential to televised sport.

What do others think?

On another points, I'm not really into swimming, but the races for swimming were scheduled brillilantly. As an event, the swimming was fantastic. They hyped up Phelps, as well as some of the other swimmers brilliantly, who all seemed to deliver the goods. The Chinaman - Sun - was brilliant in winning the 1500m freestyle - barely moving his legs for most of the race. The young Chinese girl who broke a record was also brilliant.

For the swimming event, there was literally, one race after the other with only a few minutes to digest what just happened, before the next race starts.

Unfortunately, athletics don't follow this relentless schedule- they have huge gaps between each race, which I think reduces the intensity and excitement.
