Olympic female badminton players face charges

I'm almost speechless. Since when did the BWF grew a set of balls?? Chinese has been doing it for years and nothing is ever done.

Fantastic decision. A shame that the crowds don't get to see the top players in action now but someone had to draw the line somewhere. Again, awesome decision.

It's a tough one. On the one hand it's nice for someone with little chance of even winning a match, get a chance to play more than one game. Scott Evans v Lin Dan comes to mind. 4 years training and competing to get a draw against the greatest singles player to ever play this game. It sucks. Yes, it's life but it still sucks. Round robin seems to be a good idea but naturally it'll be rife with manipulation, as we saw.

Perhaps a system where a round robin is still used, but the draws are made AFTER the round robin has been completed.

Fine them the money they were paid for the match (nothing I suspect) and carry on with a warning...

Eh, no. Because they will do it again. Thorsten Berg did warn them repeatedly to no avail. They will cheat, lie and manipulate to get ahead. Maybe in lesser competitions it's fine, but not at the Olympics.

A line had to be drawn.

I saw some of this yesterday. It was very odd to see.

After the official came on to warn them to put on a 'show', one of them stated something along the lines of "We are already through to the next round, why waste energy".

Totally wrong attitude imo.

its just a game plan for being more prepared for the round that actually counts

just unfortunate for the people who paid

Is there a large enough number of entrants to have a round robin format where only the winner of the group goes through? More groups with less people in?
