Olympic Torch on eBay

There is a genuine auction site for memorabilia by Locog, which includes an auction each day for a torch:

I'd also add that while torch bearers can buy their torch to keep, it would surprise me if there wasn't some kind of clause stopping them from selling it off, at least so soon anyway.

I was given a great piece of memorabilia myself recently which is numbered & I even had to sign a contract which prevents me from selling it or publicising it.

I'm thinking a 3 way Op with 1 to distract 1 to rob & 1 to block any chasers.

£50k through PayPal? As soon as you've sent the money, the first thing you're likely to see is a message saying "Your account has been limited" :o
I personally think you should use bank transfer.

I think there's over a dozen coppers running with it + car & van based backup, you may need more than 3 dudes!

Smoke & CS canisters and several vehicles would be more likely to succeed but still not a sure thing unless you go full on military tactics/weapons.

Phone police, shout down the phone "THERES A GUY WITH A MACHINE GUN ON (insert very nearby street here) OH GOD HE'S SEEN ME!!" Then hang up. Those police won't be there long.

I saw 2 bomb disposal vans, 15+ riot vans full of police, 50+ police on motorbikes and dozens of police lining the streets in the space of 30 minutes all in a village of around 2300.

They're obviously expecting the worst and will deal with any muppets who look like threats so someone running straight at the bearer isn't going to be dealt with in a civilised manor. Got what he deserved for being stupid.

I agree, everyone knows the torch is escorted by police and you are not meant to just run up to it. The police take this seriously and getting pushed into the bush is hardly the worst thing that could have happened. Hopefully that idiot being televised will make other idiots think twice before doing similar stupid stuff.

Pushing him into the bush was unnecessary, they'd already gotten him away from the torch, pushing him into the bushes was just petulance. Like I said though an apology would do.

The police could have used other options, but being pushed into a bush is not really excessive, they didn't harm him and they held him back until the torch bearer moved on a bit so it did the job nicely. The police have no idea of the intent of someone running into the security area so better safe then sorry.

If they harmed the guy then yes perhaps an apology may be suitable, but they didn't and in the end is was the guys fault.

When you say better safe than sorry, they were sorry there. The guy could have been injured, needlessly. They were very quick to respond, and two of them had him away and safe, it was the third one who for no good reason shoved him into the bush - to me it seemed petulant as if to say "Well this is what you get!".

Regardless if they harmed the guy they should have apologised. By the time he was pushed into the bush it was clear his intent wasn't harmful, and he was unable to do anything harmful by that point.

To be fair, it doesn't look to me like they pushed him into the bush, they were all jogging, they grabbed him when he got to close and quickly took him to the side to get out of the way of the procession, the momentum of that, and the fact they were holding on to him meant that they ended up in the bush.

edit - As above

I think selling these if you wish should be allowed no problem.

The torchbearers are all ordinary (except a few) deserving people, and most have spent their lives overcoming disabilities or helping others less fortunate than themselves.

If they have this one chance to make a lovely lump sum that will ease any possible financial burden on their lives, then that should be looked upon kindly and to me, is a very good olympic legacy.
