On The Wagon... then in 'ere!

Just for anyone who wants a cool drink on a night out that no one can make fun of: non alcoholic ginger beer, tabasco, and lime. It is fantastic and packs a punch. My cocktail of choice on a night out. Unless I'm feeling cheap in which case I go for lime and soda

Well that's a year :)

Congrats on a year DJ. I'm seven years this October just past (can't drink because of medication).

Even after only a month of cutting out booze I found it tasted disgusting starting again.

Aquired taste.

My missus will still have a glass of wine of an evening and with her dinner. So I'll sometimes pour it for her. If I'm doing it on autopilot, I'll sometimes get a strong wiff of it as I'm pouring and it makes me recoil like "uurgh", particularly reds. Like it's kicking the life out of the olfactory bulbs in my head.

I haven't replaced alcoholic drinks with non-alcoholic alternatives though. Just drink water or coffee / tea. I do drink far too much coffee / tea as a replacement though. Easily four or five cups loaded with sugar every day. So I'm probably going to knock that on the head for New Years too.

I've got to join you guys after xmas.

Cardiologist has told me that booze is causing me to suffer from PAC's, which are skipped heartbeats.

Not dangerous, but very uncomfortable and making me miserable and anxious. I can't go on too much longer suffering them, so it's time I climbed aboard that wagon.

Also, I only smoke when drinking, so stop drinking, stop smoking. Win/win.

Cheers, lasted 1 year and twelve days. Had exactly 2 beers while on a recent trip to New York.

3 days and counting :)

Seven years, that is some serious going regardless if forced or not.

Welcome along Rob, feel free to jump on or off as often as you like mate. :)

Damnit I wish I'd have seen this thread before I posted my own... would have saved a ton of wasted keystrokes trying to defend myself against some bizarrely defensive and irrational behaviour. Sometimes I forget how GD can be, sigh.

Had a good read of the OP and am going to try out some of those drinks, as I reckon coke and ginger ale are going to get very old very quickly!

That sounds pretty tasty!

Just be careful not to preach in this thread...If you fall off the wagon..Its not failure like you suggested to me...we will offer support and judge you not one bit.:)

Some find the road hard...some choose to walk the road for periods and choose a different path for periods...

The wagon can be a lonely place to be for some...It can be hard...but it can also be wonderful...

Good luck on your journey.

You with the above post is the one being antagonistic.:)

If you have posted in this thread so much and have an understanding of the logic behind why people do it, then it makes your behaviour in the other thread even more strange to me. However I don't claim to understand the way your thought processes work, so lets just leave it there and bid each other good night and merry christmas. Take it easy.

Its a very complex area...granted...And you will learn more as your sobriety goes on..

Merry Christmas mate and genuinely....Good luck:)

This is also a huge issue for me... smoking while drinking. I've done it so long that even though I don't have a physical addiction to nicotine and no longer smoke normal cigarettes, I can easily smoke a lot on a night out, it really is a compulsion. That was helped by use of e-cigarettes to give me something in my hand to have a puff on though.

PS: sorry to hear about the health issues, hope it gets better next year!

Well...made it through the two toughest periods, Christmas and New Year, solely on various soft drinks... was good fun but man, you see some funny **** when you're sober and notice everything going on around you. :D

Happy New Year everyone. :)

I quit smoking a year ago today (OK I still vape but not nearly as much and whilst not "safe" per se, it is orders of magnitude safer than tobacco).... so anyway this year its the booze being kicked, starting....

NOW!

My journey starts today. Doing the dry jan from 5th to the 5th as there was too much going on at NY.

Only my first night and already feeling it. I keep getting mental images of pints of ice cold Lager. Must resist!

Jumped on myself since 8pm new years eve...1st sober one in years.

6 days in and getting some strange withdrawal symptoms :(

Wasn't a total alky but been drinking a min of half bot of red for last 15 months every single night.

Gaming helps take my mind of it though i am drinking a lot of cheap red bull stuff in place of the wine....really doesn't help with the insomnia.

Getting crazy dreams too at night when i do eventually nod off....plus very itchy skin :(

Hopefully through the worst of it nearly now...never realised how dependent i had become on drink till i stopped :(

Why would you replace half a bottle of red wine with a lot of cheap energy drinks of all things? No wonder you can't sleep and your skin is like crap, that's not withdrawal symptoms that's simply a case of switching to too many energy drinks.

Just switch to water and clean your system out for a few days, then after that stick to sugar free robinsons etc.
