On The Wagon... then in 'ere!

You are right but also i know the diff between energy drinks effects and whats happening now...plus forgot to say i was drinking loads of that too with the wine before lol....need it to game properly as reactions aint what they used to be.

Thanks for the advice though :)

As someone that used to have far better reactions at FPS when younger I can tell you that you'll find that your reactions will get better and more consistent if you drop the energy drinks in addition to the alcohol.

Anyhow, sounds like you've made one step in the right direction at least :) As bad a rep as alcohol gets, excessive caffeine and the like isn't great for you either so...maybe consider that as a further step at some point...

Jumped on myself since 8pm new years eve...1st sober one in years.

6 days in and getting some strange withdrawal symptoms :(

Wasn't a total alky but been drinking a min of half bot of red for last 15 months every single night.

Gaming helps take my mind of it though i am drinking a lot of cheap red bull stuff in place of the wine....really doesn't help with the insomnia.

Getting crazy dreams too at night when i do eventually nod off....plus very itchy skin :(

Hopefully through the worst of it nearly now...never realised how dependent i had become on drink till i stopped :(

I had trouble sleeping last night too. I predict it will be like that at least for the next week.

Done my first week without a drop in about 15 years. The weekend wasn't as hard as I thought it would be tbh. Just got to convince myself now that if I can do one week, I can do many more.

It gets easier the longer you've been sober. It becomes more normal and you feel more confident that you can manage without it.

Well, still haven't touched a drop since mid-December and I really don't miss it at the moment... I'm saving a fortune which is going straight into photography gear, and I just feel so healthy and clear-headed without the weekend boozing and smoking. I still get a few snide or jokey comments from mates on a night out, but other than that both I and them are rapidly getting used to it. :)

Dude,

I was the same drank BEER everynight...Got ratted on rose wine on the Tuesday 6th Jan 2015...Not touched a drop since...

I just sat there not really enjoying it anymore....And I love booze!

Anyway to cut a long story short...I just stopped...Went the Gym on the Wednesday 7th 8.30pm...(was getting twitchy) did Fat burn on the Bike for 30 mins...come off saturated with sweat....then went and swam breaststroke up and down the pool for 45 mins until 9.45pm

I soon found myself swimming without realising it..Like driving on autopilot.I could sort of meditate just swimming breaststroke...20 mins go could past and it feel like 5 mins...

I can feel muscle under my moobs now too :p

Showered got home at 10:15pm Knackered. Hit the sack about 11.30pm

Next day...I did the same...and the next...and the next...and the next....its now the 20th 14 days on....I feel great...I also changed my diet..Got into cooking again...I just drank out of boredom at home after work...like reward....watched a film , grabbed a beer, rung a pizza/chinese place and fell into that routine for years....

I now relish going the gym...Never thought I would ever say that...My anxiety has diminished...My cravings subsided and my skin is now glowing...and my weight dramatically dropped....8 1bs already...

They say exercise and diet does wonders for the old brain and body...well they're right....The key is to keep busy...Busy busy busy...

Its funny how much you get done...For example I bought some machine heads for my Martin Guitar five years ago...Never fitted them was to busy drinking beer on a night....Well over the weekend, Saturday night I decided to fit them...Bit nervous its a 4K acoustic Guitar and didn't want to **** it up :p

But I just sat there with my tools and bits and bobs and spent the evening fitting them...With a clear brain it was enjoyable rather than a hassle...Before I knew it was midnight....I'd nailed another Saturday night off the booze :)

Got a few projects lined up...Saved loads of money and might treat myself to a new Roland Digital piano..Not played for years..But it will give me focus...

Go for it...change your routine...keep busy and you will reap the benefits...If I can go 2 weeks...anyone can

This is a milestone for me....

(now where are my swimming trunks :p)

I'm the same about the money. Starting to realise i'm gonna have money to start doing things and buying things that I couldn't before. First up will be a brand new 50 inch TV.

I couldn't believe how much more money there was when the drinks stopped. It's another nice reward for making the effort.

Finished my first drink free month since I was 18.

Amazed I got this far to be honest. Now the struggle is to keep it up.

Well done. :) The first weeks are the hardest and it shouldn't be so much of a struggle from now on. Just don't keep thinking that it will be.

Good going man. I'm now approaching 2 months and it's amazing how good I feel with no bingeing on weekends. My mood is much better and more positive, my stamina is better. The only time I have missed it is when everyone around me is plastered and it's impossible to get an intelligent conversation out of someone, but then again that's also a good thing to. I also have more disposable income to spend on the things I love.

My friends have gone from skeptical ribbing, to genuinely impressed. :)

After a long hard look at life and priorities I have decided to join 'the wagon' to some degree.

As a classic binge drinker, age has taken its toll on me and hangovers now last well over two days. I've noticed concentration and mood becoming progressively worse and beer belly becoming progressively better. I also have a real issue with just having one drink...one leads to another and I end up a mess.

I don't drink in the week at all. Not a drop. But come Friday it's open season and that needs to stop. So, while I have not decided to become tee-total, I have decided to not get drunk anymore.

Not even sure how to approach it from a social point of view as my pals are all big drinkers!

Anyway, that's my 2p worth and be interested to hear how people have made the change themselves.

Cheers! (Oh, the irony...)
