One hit? Wonder[ful]

  • Thread starter Thread starter Sic
  • Start date Start date
Bloc Party - Helicopter
Funeral For A Friend - Juneau
Slipknot - People = **** (on Iowa), and Duality (on Vol 3)
Tool - Stink Fist (oh yes I went there)

crikey! some pretty bold choices there! That first bloc party album is really strong, and FFAF have some really good tracks on 7 ways and Casually Dressed. Slipknot's self titled is pretty much great from start to finish and vol. 3 is great all the way through, too.

And don't even get me started on Tool being mentioned in this thread!

Good track choices, though!

It's not a waste - some one-hit wonders are amazing, but I haven't had space for them until recently. Time to beef up my "odd songs" playlist :D

They were all somewhat cheeky yeah :p. Mainly I just picked stand-out tracks from albums I have (I've never been a singles fan).

Although that said, most of Slipknot's stuff really doesn't do much for me, and I just don't seem to get Tool. Love APC, love Deftones, like Stink Fist, but the rest just passes me right by. Lots of shouty german and stompy nothingness getting in the way of much-needed riffage. Tut.

German?! What are you on about, man? Are you thinking of Rammstein? And I don't get why Deftones are in that list, unless you're talking about Passenger.

Edit: the german thing, are you talking about the spoken word track with the recipe for brownies or something

Somebody once told me, the world is gonna roll me, I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Smash Mouth - All Star (oh good god...guilty pleasure?)
Lit - My own worst enemy
Reef - Place your hands.

It's sunny today in Brizzle, so some summery tunes! :)

Reef - Place your hands.

omg - that really is a tune, pretty much makes a night out getting to dance like a maniac to that :)

proclaimers - i'm gonna be
edwin collins - magic piper of love
the cardigans - love fool
sugar hill gang - rappers delight (if that's what it's called)

(VH1 - 100 one hit wonders, i thank you!)

Is it wrong that whenever I hear that song, I instantly think of the Digimon Movie?

What follows is not an endorsement of quality...

Del Amitri - Roll To Me
Tone Loc - Funky Cold Medina
Unkle Kracker - Follow Me
The Vapors - Turning Japanese
Von Bondies - C'Mon C'Mon
Blues Traveler - But Anyway
Crash Test Dummies - Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm

Skee-lo - I wish
Cameo - Word Up
Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl
Mighty 44 - Mighty 44

Don't forget about Apache, pure dead brilliant. Also you need to decide if you are going to listen to the full 14 minute version or the shortened 7 minute one. :)

I think these probably count as OHWs.

Phats & Small - Turn Around
Sarah Whatmore - When I Lost You (I Lost Everything)
Safri Duo - Played Alive
Clock - December '63 (Oh What A Night)
Real Life - Send Me An Angel
Ram Jam - Black Betty (or the Spiderbait version if you are that way inclined)
Fog Hat - Slow Ride
Crash Test Dummies - Mm Mm Mm
Mirwais - Disco Science
Moony - Dove (I'll Be Loving You)
Tanita Tikaram - Twist In My Sobriety (not strictly her only good song but the only one that most people will know)
Suzanne Vega - Tom's Diner (perhaps even the DNA remix)

ever seen pitchforks review of the last Jet album ?

its :p:p:D

Haha that's pretty funny. Didn't even give it 0.0!

TBH I don't even like that Jet song, but it is a massive one hit wonder.

14 minute for sure!

OPM - Heaven is a Halfpipe
New Radicals - You get what you give
The Vapors - Turning Japanese
Cornershop - Brimful of Asha

Loads more but they've probably been said.

bah! Beer is where it's at with those guys! :D

Agreed :)

Edit: How about Refused - New Noise... I know most of their songs are good but that's the only one I remember being particularly popular.
