One hundred pushups

yeah, i know it says later on that they want you to do crunches, not situps, but that is so wrong its shocking lol

I've been doing this for 4 weeks. Up to 23, 28, 23, 23, 33 sets at the moment! Didn't think I'd progress this far. It's a fun little challenge and is getting me used to organising a schedule and sticking to it.

Thanks OP!
Great site, am going to give it a go, as am currently in training (just started) for my first half marathon, and i'll be doing sit ups and push ups on my days off from running!
Just done my test and only managed 13 in one go! So a long way to go for me.....

I can't really do pushups, there's something wrong with my left wrist and clavicle(collar bone area) that is really painful and clicks when doing it.

Usually do pull ups on a bar in the landing every morning ( I guess that's a bit harder, but it does not hurt!)

Have you tried doing pushups with pushup handles (or dumbbells as makeshift handles)? they put less strain on the wrists as they aren't bent.

Also pushups and pull ups use completely different muscles (opposite/antagonistic as it happens) so you're best off doing both ;)

pushups use your pushing muscles: chest and triceps
pullups use pulling muscles: biceps and back

I'm very surprised at the small amount of pushups that a lot of people can do, I'm really not very strong (see bodybuilders pic thread) and yet I can do 30 pushups in a row and I weigh ~75+kg

Well yeah, most people don't workout or work their upper body much or at all, hence the results above!

Might give it a crack. Can usually do anywhere between 20-50 before my arms give and need a rest.

Probably jump in at Week 3.

started off on week 3 because I managed around 30.

Column 3, day 1, week 3......... my arms felt like jelly on the 2d last set, couldn't hit the min of 20, so I'm dropping down to column 2.

I think part of it depends on your weight, I wouldn't class myself as strong per-se but I can usually do around 20 pressups and 100 sit ups at a push (I used to regularly try and get into a routine every morning, it usually asted about 2 days and then left for a couple of months...:o), however I only weigh just less than 70kg.

I may try both of these, really need to get fit-ish again after sitting on my bum for a year.:(

I don't see the point of this? Doing 100 of anything isn't going to be that beneficial in the long run.

OK, initial tests:

Press-ups 25
Situps 70
Squats 60

So I'm starting week 3 on the press-ups and week 5 on the other two.

I'll start on Monday and let you all know how I do. I might get my pull-up bar from home this weekend and start doing that again. However, It's going to require convincing my house-mate to let me put it up...

Might just bring my dumbells and play with them again.

Panzer

I think I'm going to give this a go, just for a bit of fun. I'm 9stone so not exactly big built and can manage 30 push ups already. I'm more into my running but I'm pretty sure that I can manage this in 3 or 4 weeks.
