One hundred pushups

It all depends on how much you wiegh, if your as light as a fly its so easy

I understand what you're trying to say, but it doesn't actually work like that.

If you're light, you're likely to have less muscle mass than someone bigger. It's all about the proportion of muscle to weight.

For instance, an averagely fit skinny guy weighing 10st would be able to do far less pressups than a super fit weight lifter that weighing 15st.

I don't see the point of this? Doing 100 of anything isn't going to be that beneficial in the long run.

I think articles like this are designed for targeting unhealthy/overweight people to try get them into shape...if you already have a fitness plan and your already on top of your health and fitness then you dont need to do this, some people like to lift weights, others like to run or ride a bike, its whatever you enjoy to keep you healthy and at the same time keep you motivated.

i think i'l start this.. it seems good motivation.. at the moment i try to do about 3 sets of 30 pushups in the morning and then in the evening(i recon i could do as an absolute max 50 in one go), but i havnt been pushing myself... been back from uni for over a month and havnt joined a kickboxing gym yet, which i said i would, so hopefully going to do that this week aswell..

Cool link! Thanks OP :) will definetly look into this. I can currently manage only 10. Can push 15 but the last 5 are pathetic wobbly affairs :(

The initial test for that must have been brutal lol. How many did they expect recruits to be able to perform?

At the beginning of training they didn't care, but at the end you had to be able to pass the fitness test, which is 20 in one minute. Not the most challenging of tests.

Am I the only one that finds the rate of increase rather ridiculous?

With situps, I went from having to do 38 on Monday, to 49 today. (Week 1, Column 2) That's a 29% increase between sessions!! Needless to say, I really struggled.

The pushups didn't feel as bad, but I still had to briefly stop in the middle of the last set. :(

I'm using the android app for push-ups that helps you on your way to 125. At the start (Around 2 weeks ago) I could manage 25 if I really pushed it, can now do 125 consecutively and not even finished the routine yet :)

What's it called? It'd be interesting to see what its like.

Wow, that's a spectacular improvement over such a short time, almost hard to believe! There has to have been something up with your form at some point, either before you started that was holding you back, or now which is why you can do so many as you're not doing it properly.

Search for "Push Ups" on the android market, the guy does an app for Push Ups, Sit Ups and Squats that are all great :)

In the past I've been able to do around 100, but haven't excersised in a while, so maybe this program has just...unlocked (?) my past ability?

As for form, my brother did a degree in sports & fitness (Or something like that) so I got him to check me out one night to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong. He said at one point near the end I was loosing it but I think I've corrected that now.

Honestly the apps I've listed are great, I've been using them two weeks and tonight on the schedule is the following (split up via 60-75 second breaks)
- 260 Push Ups
- 165 Sit Ups (Started this one later than the others)
- 557 Squats

It sounds like a lot, until you realise how big the breaks are, I do them before bed with the TV on so it's not taking up any time I wouldn't normally be wasting lying in bed anyway. But honestly the improvement is great.

I realise I sound like a giant advert for the apps, but they're all free and I didn't make them so...try them out :p

EDIT: Just had an email back from the guy who makes the apps, I asked him to make a pull ups app and he has just replied to say he now has one on the android market, awesome :D
