One Meal a Day (OMAD)

here i dont go, so you show one tribe. now how about all the other tribes and all the other research into diets through the ages? All the modern tribes which are still high proteine, how about the earlisest farmers some 12k years ago that had 40-50% of calories from animals. How about all the 100s of mummies that have been analyised and 3/4 of them where mainly animal sourced diet and the one area which wasnt animal based, got the majority from nuts and seeds.
ANd more importantly the bit you always liek to skip. The science like hormonal responses, cholestrol profiles etc.

You are the only one who brought up primal or the modern fad, I haven't mentioned either, so try again on that front as weel.

How about you provide some links to back up your claims?

I only ask because high meat diets are usually very rare in more traditional lifestyles. Hunting isn’t always successful and even if it is it’s usually smaller animals. For people that don’t hunt meat is expensive to buy and killing your own animals is usually for a festival/celebration and not an everyday occurrence.

There certainly isn't a prevelance in high fat meats that we in the west eat and an increase in meat eating is generally directly related to increase in wealth. As you say most of the fat comes from nuts and seeds and as the article says, some fish and lean game. Less so farmed animals we have in the west, with their higher fat contents caused by their own sedately lifestyles.

Well done.
The real question is how long that weight stays off, will be interesting to see what happens over the next 2 years say.

Been doing this myself for a few weeks now, loosely following keto as well (so essentially just a low carb diet) and been quite enjoying it.
Mostly because I only have to cook once a day and it saves on washing up. :P

Lost over 4kgs so far, pretty tidy.

So, Its almost been 4 months since I started my journey..I couldn't help but jump on the scales this morning. I've lost an amazing 52lbs as of today in just shy of 4 months.

SW 126kg/279lbs/19st13
CW 103kg/227lbs/16st4

A loss of 23kg/52lbs/3st9

Im enjoying this way of living.

Can I ask what your one meal a day is and do you take any vitamins please?

Sounds like a easier version of ramadan fasting, usually lose around just over a stone in a month. Hard for the first few days but your body gets used to it.

Might give it a try as need to shift some weight for my brothers wedding in 3 months. As long as you can have chewing gum (breath) and water i reckon could do it longer term than what im used to.

Nice one

I changed my diet around about 4.5 months ago and I’ve lost just over 4 st , I’m now 12 stone

I intermittently fast rather than do omad and try to eat as few a carbs as possible , I also drink plenty of water during fasting hours , since starting my cravings for food (especially sweet food) has reduced considerably, I went into this with having a sweet or carb laden treat every 2 weeks in mind but now I don’t even feel I want a treat as that food doesn’t appeal as much

I feel so much healthier , happier, my body looks better , I’ve got so much more energy and my mind seems clearer and more focused

I’ve also tried water fasting , it’s definitley something worth trying once in your life, you wil learn to appreciate any food after a few days

You doing keto essentially ? I want to do keto ( just started OMAD ) but still just eating a big meal in my window as I don't eat meat or dairy anyways but want to try and not be deficient in any nutrients without taking a supplement.

don't do the popular thing of trying to make baked and other carb heavy dishes uses almond flour, cheese etc. use carb allowance on leafy greens and some other low carb veg.
and most people in the uk and other northern countries should be taking vitamin d supplement, as deficiency is normal.

nice work rotters,

I’m not strictly doing keto or a specific diet ,I just try to avoid things that are full of carbs or sugar which naturally puts me in ketosis anyways, but I don’t count fat/protein/carb ratios or anything , I do try to stick to a certain amount of calories per day though

It works for me and a lot of weight has been fat loss ,I’m now a 32 waist at 12st where as last time I was a 32 waist I was 10st , I also measure bigger across my chest

I can see and feel areas where the fat has gone and starting to get some definition around muscles which is good considering I don’t go to a gym heh

Mini update from me. I started about three weeks ago. Not entirely sure of day 1 but first weighing I was 104.5kg. Now down to 99.8kg. I eat healthy but don't micro manage macros I use nutritional yeast on my salads and take a multi vitamin. Unfortunately due to a groin injury I can't walk as much as I'd like to but still happy with weight loss.

The mental control is amazing. I am comfort / over eater and already I really don't even think about food. My window is 16.30 to 17.30 to allow to eat dinner with family like rotters. Now if I am doing something at that time I have to remind myself to break the fast.

Definitely a lot of brain fog the first few days but now everything is normal. I don't see myself changing from this way of eating.

Thanks to rotters for the post as I had not heard of this before !

On a similar diet and lost 20lbs in about 2 weeks (from a 16st 2lb start). I was pointed in the direction of Dave Aspreys Bulletproof diet - huge book with lots of science and references behind it. In essence its a low/non carb diet with 16 hours of fasting. Generally avoid all dairy with the exception of Ghee / Grass fed Butter. Theres also a good video by Jason Fung on the science behind intermittent fasting and why you never see reunion shows for "the biggest loser". Takes a bit of getting used to but I have had so much more energy than I used to.

Fundamentally bodies are slightly different in terms of how they react - so while it works for me might not work for others. Interesting read though.
