One of the most important questions posed to mankind in recent times

The packets of bacon we buy only have 6 in a packet. Everyone in the house will only have 2, I want at least 3 though. So I normally just have 3 and get moaned at :p

Sausage far better though.

Any even number greater than 3 but three is acceptable as a minimum if the situation calls for it.

NEVER! 3 is odd. it causes an imbalance in the sandwich no matter how you try to position it.

Your first part was correct. Even, starting from 4 upwards :)

As a leading expert and wanna-be baconologist i feel competent enough to answer this question.

Small bap = 3 slices
Two slices of bread = 6 slices
Half french stick = 6 slices

Odd numbers work because you lay the bacon top to tail in the sandwich to ensure the good spread of bacon.

Emergency situations can call for three. You line two up and one diagonally. Job done.

However that should only be used in a bacon sandwich emergency. Normal operation calls for at least four and incrementing in even numbers.

Either toasted bread with toasted cheese on one slice and 3 slices of bacon, or fresh french bread with as many slices of bacon that will fit and a fried egg for good measure.

No need for sauce nonsense, unless you have cheap, nasty bacon.

This.

Bacon has to be slightly crispy though, and I probably wouldn't put on more than 8 slices. 6 Works well, because you can use the technique for putting 3 pieces on and double it up :)

If you really want to go all out though:

2 slices of thick brown or white bread and a minimum of 4 slices of smoked bacon nice n crispy, two slices layed verticle and 2 horizontal.

Finished off with a egg and the sauce of your choice.

Whilst the more bacon the better, per sandwich (two slices of bread) I find 2/3 slices of bacon is ideal.
