Ooopps... Suspended!

We were having a debate about a none work related matter and fisticuffs ensued, I basically punched the guy in jest on the arm (someone I know quite well and get along with) and he jumped up shouting "dont ****** hit me blah blah" and full on punched me in the face!

Moral of the story: don't EVER do that to someone you're not really mates with. It's obvious from his reaction that not only are you not really friends, but that your relationship is under constant strain/tension due to you not being comfortable with each-other (or him with you, whether you're aware of it or not), and punching him in the arm was the final straw that broke the camels back and caused an eruption. Plus i'm guessing you may have hit him harder than you're suggesting, possibly into dead arm territory, and if you did that to me and we weren't solid friends your name would be mud for a long time.

As suggested formally apologise to him and boss, and never be silly enough to do something like that in a workplace or professional environment ever again.

Where do you work skyfall (yes that could be important)

Secondly tell your colleague he is a fag and kick his ass properly, then go tell your boss he is a fag too and proceed to lay a whooping on him also.

lots of firms will have zero tolerance sooooo p45 will be in the post, doesnt matter how hard you think you hit him, in this day and age get ready to be bent over

"Bit odd that you should get the sack for being punched in the face."

He admits to having hit the guy first, a coleague not a friend there is an argument that it was just a bit of horseplay but even so to hit somebody at work even fairly lightly and in jest is an absolute no-no.

People you work with are coleagues first and foremost, remember they have to work with you as you do with them , most people are perfectly capable of having a freindly working relationship even with people they do not like. If you do not activley socialise with them outside of work then assume they are not close friends.

To the OP learn the lesson and I hope it all goes well for you.

If you work for somewhere like me (local government) then I wouldn't worry about it, we've had somebody suspended on full pay for over 6 months now for simply squaring up to somebody and not laying a finger on them.

I'm tempted to do the same thing see if I can get the same treatment.

Did you think it was 1 sandwich or 2?

Does his answer change whether you'll offer any helpful advice? :p

Skyfall: I'm sure you are well aware of it now but hitting someone in the workplace, even in jest, is seldom a good idea as it can very easily be interpreted the wrong way. That said, from the limited information given, it sounds like a serious overreaction from your mate. With luck you'll both get a telling off and warned against doing anything so silly again.

Lolz winner.

Epic time to get fired as well.

I love your posts. The voice of reason speaks :D

Skyfall you can join me at the job centre in Mboro now (Unfortunately got redundancy not quite an epic leave as you) :D

bet you wanted to hit him back after he smacked you in the face as well but thought you best not as you might get fired. in hindsight you probably should taken the oppourtunity as you will probably get sacked anyway :p

best way forward is to apologise, explain to your boss it was meant as a joke and you never expected that reaction.
