Openreach engineer visit oddity

Could simply be he turned up, job was too much for time/skill/forgot tools and he bailed.

I had an electrician do exactly that, came along to do an EICR, poked the fusebox a bit, said he needed something from the van and vanished.

Had to phone up for a replacement electrician and the company didn't have an answer either.

Similar thing happened to my parents when they were getting a new kitchen installed. They hadn't entirely decided what to do about lighting and were discussing it and seeking his advice, he got rapidly fed-up that it hadn't already been specified for him, said he was going to his van to get something and left. One of the other contractors called him and he said he was packing it in entirely!

I'll DM you, appreciate it.

You know what, I can't recollect showing any ID or carrying a badge. Was definitely in a rush
I've received your DM chap and replied now.

I cant promise anything but I've sent a message on our internal comms to see if we can get to the bottom of it and get you in service.

Got this via Twitter from talktalk, which a blatant lie

"Hello, I have spoken to Openreach who advised that the enigneer stated the line would need to span across 3 rear gardens and this has been passed for further review. They advised the next update will be available on 24th January. We're sorry for the delay, we can check back with them on this date an dupdate you further - Amii"

I can get Virgin Media at my house, maybe worth abandoning TT/Openreach and switching? Similar price.
Virgin installers aren't any better, will happily lie to you about work that will be completed later on and then never return.

Most of the problems seem to be down to installers not being given enough time to complete allocated jobs so if anything irregular comes up they make an excuse and leave it for the next guy.

It sounds like an unusual setup you have.

From your OP it sounds like you have the master socket either on the side or back wall of your house? Most people have it near the front of their house.

Report the first guy if you can. They usually send a text message asking how they did.

Due to the help provided by @ijt I currently have an Openreach engineer here completing the job.

Copper line disconnected and hopefully full fibre will be available within an hour.
No problem at all, That's great news.

I've just been updated to say it is all up and running now too?

From looking at the map the overhead feed looks to be from a pole at the rear of the property rather than the front, which is probably why it was installed initially where it was.

Openreach are rather rubbish.

I am stuck with VM because the Openreach site says the only speed I can get is between 2 - 4mb (!) despite the last engineeer we had saying that it was full fat broadband in our street. Something about their records still showing us as being connected to an old exchange/box thingy - idk? shrugs.

Been that way for years now. When I have rung up in the past they just say there is nothing they can do so I cant even get to the the quote stage.

They've been great for me. Been with them 10 years now.

They are so cheap and now reliable I can't escape!
Were perfect for me too until I had to actually deal with them. Reliable and cheap too but that cheapness comes at a price, namely their support which is borderline useless.

I can try and look into this on Monday if you're happy to DM me your address? It'll hopefully give you some options come renewal time, if it is indeed a records error.

Do you know if it's just your property? i.e. can your neighbours order FTTC/FTTP products but you can't or is it street/estate wide issue?

Wasn't so bad for me. They sent out a new router when I had a fault and did some remote work on the line when had speed issues.

They used to be bad. But found them a lot better last 2 or 3 years
