opera mini submited to app store

Had a very little play on this. Speeds seem very fast, although admittedly I was using wi-fi. The only bad thing is the way the text is unreadable at full size. Also the zoom/scrolling seems very fast/jerky and not as smooth as Safari.

also noticed that it does not want to display forums properly. Safari shows it like it would on a normal screen, where as opera makes everything too big thus losing the formatting on the main forum screens.

Just had a quick play and while it is quite good, I would say it is an addition to rather than a replacement for Safari. I do like it though.

App doesn't load as quick as safari, but I love the fast rendering, zooming and general usability. Not really keen on the non native look and feel of the app.

A couple of things I've noticed that annoy me about it now... You can no longer really zoom in using pinch - for example, using it to view the forum, I can't zoom in to the page numbers to easily go to page 3 of a thread. Also, if you're reading a long web page, you can't tap at the top of the screen to jump up to the URL/top of page.

I'm hoping version 2.0 will sort some of this whenever that happens.

Overall the little niggles are enough to stop me using it.

Stuff like the text being unreadable when zoomed out, the laggy scrolling through pages, and poor zooming all combine to make me rather use Safari. I'm glad it got through but they need to improve it before it'll be comparable.

Once the zooming/text/formatting thing is sorted in newer versions it'll be very good. Shame you can't read text when not zoomed in. The big thing is the alignment/formatting of web pages, if it were like Safari i'd be very tempted to use it straight away. Will definitely keep it till a few new versions though. It's a lot nicer to use in full screen, too.

Was out of the house this evening and it's actually a LOT slower on 3G rather than Wifi. I'll keep using it and see which I prefer overall.

Basically what everyone has already said.
Good to be using Opera again.
One thing I find so far is single hand use is easier.

Oh dear, I feel they rushed this product a bit..

1) zooming needs to be worked on, you either zoom full, or dont zoom at all.. we need to be able to zoom down to the level we want to zoom to.
2) browsing this forum was out of the question, it would display the main forum (for example apple software), but when I press page 2 for this very thread it kept reloading the Apple software forum.
3) speed? I dont find it any faster to be honest

I browsed this forum fine

I'm on O2 and don't get 3G in my area so surfing the web on the iPhone has always been a nightmare, but Opera has sped things up quite dramatically. The people at work I recommended it to have agreed too.

Very nice on the iPhone 3G, seems to load a lot of my favourite sites a lot quicker than Safari. Not sure how it compares on the faster 3G but it seems to make a noticeable difference on the 3G.

I had this problem too, it kept loading and then would just go straight back to the page I was on originally.

Aside from that it's nippy though it won't be replacing safari (will happily use opera when wanting to browse for longer periods of time as opposed to a quick check in safari for news etc.)
