How the hell did I miss this browser? I've just now downloaded it on the reccommendation of a friend and oh my god... it's absolutely and utterly flippin amazing, easily the best i've ever used!

The UI is quality... so clear and intuitive and the options are so damn useful... I feel like i've been blind for so long and all of a sudden I can see (vomits). Saving the sessions and then opening up all my favourite pages at once... ahh schweet!

I realse this thread may seem incredibly silly to those who've been using it for ages but seriously I can't reccommend this highly enough... we use IE and FF at work and they aren't a patch on this... browsing heaven. :D

Just out of interest... is there any way of changing the UI so that the tabs are at the bottom instead of at the top? I also can't get the integrated torrents thing to show...

EDIT - Sorted tabs etc.

It is a good little browser that. Does some things better for me than Firefox but it just wasn't enough to make me switch over.

What is wrong with the Torrent feature? As for the tabs if you can't drag them and there is no option in the er Options take a look on the Opera support pages and see if there is anything there.

Glad to find another Opera fan on here! Only a matter of time before the FF fanboys weigh in though. You can right click on a tab and choose customize - theres an option to shift tabs to the bottom of the screen. As for torrents, they just show up in the transfers tab like any other download. There aren't any specific options etc.

;)

I use it for wml. So much nicer than Firefoxs wml extension.

But I couldn't use it 24/7.

What don't you like about it just out of interest? That question goes to anyone else too. :)

Ahh I see... excellent. Thanks. :D

Yes you can have the tabs at the bottom.

Been using Opera for a couple of years now - clearly better than any other browser inc Firefox. Fast, stable and ingenious :)

WOw... the more I explore this browser the more I can't believe how good it is. I haven't been this impressed with a piece of software since I installed NOD32. This is a seriously silk smooth, professional browser that imo for my needs kicks the crap out of IE and FF.

It looks sublime... so customiseable... so quick and responsive... i'm in love. :D

Yeah, I really like Opera and have been using it for many years.

Didn't really enjoy Firefox tbh, just thought Opera was better and stuck with it.

Scort.

when i used it, it used up a hell of a lot of memory, maybe it was a memory leak at the time. but thats what put me off for a while. maybe its changed i dunno.

Holy ****... it's using 248MB.

EDIT - Found this http://my.opera.com/mitchman2/blog/show.dml/167116

There's a commom misconception that the working set of an application, as seen in the task manager, is the amount of physical memory the application is using. This is not entirely correct.

The working set actually tells you how many virtual pages in the process are mapped into physical memory.

What the OS will do, when an application such as Opera is using external DLLs or even other parts of opera.dll, is to map that part of the dll into the virtual address space of Opera. The actual memory used will not increase, only the working set.

To use an example for the technical people out there:

Open a file

Call CreateFileMapping to create a mapping handle

Call MapViewOfFile twice to create two different identical views on the same file

Try looping through just one of the views and look at what that does to your process' working set

Now try looping through both views and look at what that does to your process' working set

The result you will find is that the working set from #5 is double the working set from #4. However, the OS isn't using any more physical memory in #5 then in #4. So #5 will show as twice the memory used in the task manager, but in reality, there is very little difference in the physical memory used!

Now, if you minimize Opera, you will see that the memory used in task manager will decrease significantly. This is because the working set is freed by the OS.

Another thing worth noting is that plugins will add to the working set of Opera, some in a significant way.

I hope this clears up some points.

used to use opera a few years ago (when it still had advertising) but I switched to fx because it crashed aaalll the time. One thing I will say is that you can do session restore and bookmark all of your open tabs (then right click the bookmark folder to open all) in firefox.

I don't think I would want to leave firefox for the lack of extensions...

is that sarcasm or what? :p

No I was dead serious... just updated my earlier post. It's was using exactly that amount when I checked in Task Manager.

EDIT - It's just gone to 146MB.

ROFL. What kind of websites are you on? Many tabs open? Does sound a lot though. I'd have to have 15/20+ tabs open in FF to get anywhere near that.

5 tabs open... my usual favourites.
