Operation Flashpoint 2-Dragon Rising.

I really don't understand this decision in light of piracy concerns. I had this on pre-order as I wanted to play it online, on dedicated servers, with friends.

With it being P2P only and no doubt available soon via "nefarious channels" one could simply get it from there and use Hamachi. If companies like Codemasters think PC gamers are going to shell out for shameless console ports before they'll consider making the PC versions up to scratch then they've got another thing coming.

They've quite literally lost a sale (and many others I suspect) on the strength of this shabby console port decision.

I don't think they are that bothered about PC sales, someone's spent a month porting the console version over and hashed a few movie's together, so long as they cover his costs its a win win situation.

but its not a win win situation... i, like a lot of others, have cancelled the pre-order because the game does not deliver what was intended or advertised, therefore they have lost a lot of sales.

IF the game is patched with proper server support and the gameplay isnt broke im sure myself and a lot of other potential buyers might have a look, but for now their decision on 4player(if 100% confirmed) P2P is just backward for the PC gamers.

**edit**

so they have released this game with no server authentication ?, no serial ?, no Punkbuster type anti-hack ? ..... it just gets worse and worse the more i hear :(

but its not a win win situation... snip(

It is for them, minimum effort / maximum profit on a product that was targeted to the console users and amended cheaply to tap a second priority market, Its just business. Move onto the next one and support devs/publishers that place the PC market above or equal to the consoles.

The above posts make me a sad panda, especially the guy's review with him saying you can jump out of moving vehicles, the enemy AI are stupid and the gameplay is arcade based.

It now feels like I've pre-ordered a Battlefield 2 game but without the 64 player servers and just 4 player co-op. I only paid £17 but I'm now close to cancelling. Do others think it's worth just leaving the order and selling on ebay if it turns out to be poor? I'm just worried that although it's all P2P based multiplayer, they may still require an account to log in with and hence lock the serial key to that account.

Men of War is a classic example of this. You need an account to get online, but it's all P2P based. I only ever managed a few lag free games in that and it was an RTS. Whenever the host got bored or was losing he would quit and everyone was dumped back to the lobby :(

personally I would hit the cancel button and wait to see what they do to it. But that's coming from someone who's not remotely interested in the SP side of it. If your after the 16v16 battles then you cant do that now anyway so why line their pockets.

If they fix it in a few weeks look again, you've not lost any game time

Ahh balls. The game is "packing" so it won't let me cancel the order. I've been told I have to send it back when it arrives! The joys of ordering off the internet. Shame on Codemasters though marketing this as Flashpoint 2 when it's not really a Flashpoint game, but more of a BF2 style one.

Same boat as you Totality, can't cancel and have to pay return postage...but i will return as i pre-ordered thinking it was gona be good online :(

No dedicated servers? You know what that says to pirates? "Here, have a free game! We wont even lock you out of multiplayer!". I bet Codemasters will moan about the level of piracy on the PC on this game down the line too. You done it to yourself guys, one of the few effective ways of stopping piracy is to lock them out of MP. That way if some pirate it and like it, they'll buy it to get into the MP aspect.

Still, I won't be buying this. No dedicated servers on a 32 player multiplayer match? In an FPS game? In 2009? Seriously? Words fail me. I only buy games for the fun I can have in multiplayer, single player doesn't entertain me much, and it looks like you've made up my mind for me on this one. And no, I don't care about your 4 player co-op option. I want big fights!

Was really looking forward to this too. :(

Again, C&C checks your CD key even though multiplayer is P2P. I would be very surprised if Codemasters (who lest we forget came up with FADE) have no online copy protection in OPF2. Quite willing to be wrong though :)

Also just tried to cancel...packing..blah blah..

I am really annoyed at this, I was again another really looking forward to the follow on from the original OFP...guess not!

I think ill be turning to Arma 2 then, I imagine its a lot better now then it was originally, also cheaper :)

Just got it. Had a quick bash and really not sure what to make of it. Graphics look surprisingly dated, and there's some really lazy stuff in there - if you get injured and call for a medic the medic just runs over and stands by you holding a medipack! No proper healing animations or anything, looks very weird. The gun battles seem reasonably intense though

well they obviously spent money making the PC version so they need to recoup the costs regardless of how it was converted. Their advertising obviously hit the PC gamers and created some kind of buzz, this is plain to see by the reaction from the majority returning/cancelling orders ie profit lost not profit made..

agreed .. this is what annoys me the most with certain releases, take GRiD for example, those of us who pre-ordered and bought their copies were racing against players who had pirated the game yet still had access to everything!! why would they then go out and buy the game ??

personally, i think Codemasters knew a while back that this game wasnt going to live up to the hype and that it couldnt match the previous game for depth or come close to Arma II. Sure they will make a bundle of cash from the console market and reviews there seem favourable. I wonder just how good the game is on PC ?

just another kick in the nads for you guys buying this, the pirate copy does seam to be working online! maybe not forever but atm it seams to!

There's no serial key needed to pay on-line, so yes ofc it will work, its astounding the state this has been released in. Its like its some sort of social experiment or something, I wont be DLing it though as despite how much I think this thing is worthless, I don't agree with nicking it (a different thread I know, please not pull me up on it :P)

This outcome though it without doubt what they wanted, this isnt some silly oversight and someone back at CM towers inst looking up and shouting "hahahah OMG we are silly, we've forgotten to include SADS, copy protection, anti cheat and the ability to JIP".

The whole thing points to it being the worse console port in the history of gaming, they've not even bothered to tidy up the loose ends that conversion brings, its simply dumped on to disk and pushed out the door like an over ripe turd.

Jesus this game is getting such a slating these last 2 days, maybe thats why its so cheap? I was really looking forward to this, was hoping it to be game of the year for me. SP is what a mainly after but the MP is a bit of a dissapointment, its not quite the end of the world that every-ones making it out to be. I think a few of you are just bitterly upset and making the whole thread seem like the game is quite poor. The graphics look utterly amazing, in what way do you think they are dated Woodster?
