so i got a bit of time off work and thought, hey! lets mutilate this case.....
dsci0206fx0.jpg

first thing is to remove the rivets around the back so i can reverse the layout, want to try the psu at the bottom and all that.
next job is to drill some new holes and rivet those.
one question though, what to do with the frame? it looks a bit faded, can you polish it or would it be easier to spray?
will put more pictures when imageshack wakes up, might even be able to rotate that one too!
oh and the other idea is to have say three fans at the bottom and the top of the case, for a different air flow. anyone else heard of that being donne before? utilising the old heat rising theory?
get the feeling this case could end up in the skip by the end of the week but who knows, it might just work!

Ahh cool, this sounds very interesting. Is the base of the unit going to be raised a reasonable amount off the floor then? Otherwise it wont be able to pull very much cooler air into the system.

well i could do with some advice there really, i was thinking of using some wheels about an inch or so big, need to find those first! thing is, would a gap like that be enough to draw cold air through to the top?

The bigger the gap at the bottom the better, and remember to put some filters on, or you'll end up with the first computer -> hoover mod! :p

PK!

Definately!
And yeah the bigger gap you can create the better. And the wheels you use have got to look good! I wonder if there is any other way you can do it

You can just lightly sand down the inside and then primer it, should be durable enough.
ok, cheers.
its gonna be a boring job sanding all those nooks and crannies but hey, it could well be worth it!
oh man, then it will be colours and that......

Don't worry too much about the sanding, the inside of the case doesn't get much action apart from when parts are being changed. Also a tip, if you are painting it black, white or grey just primer it in that colour ;)

omg! brainstorms go a bit mad when other people help out. cheers all, off to pick up the riveter (?) as you can see it all came away easily. holes are drilled and it all seems straight with sides on.

I'm liking the look of this matey! Have you looked at any wheels yet? Id be interested to know how often you will have to clean your fan filters. Maybe you'll need to mod some sort of hoover back onto it :p

Is that a 60mm fan mount...?!

If you have a dremel or hole saw you could cut out the back to fit a 90mm fan with much less restriction to the airflow :)

Looks like there is space for a 120mm at the front also.

Edit: Oh, and it looks quite good by the way but it is still ATX not BTX :)

@ Mark, no not even looked at wheel options yet. will probably use something tacky to star with then look for something more classy for the end.
@ Raikiri, need to measure up when I get home, gonna make new front, going for a smooth look at the minute and thinking of having the power button on the top of the case. was also thinking of only having one drive so plenty of room for fans, any ideas a welcome though!

Well if you haven't got the wheels on it just put it up on bricks for now! :p

Talking about the plain front option and your general approach of turning things around to places they weren't has got me thinking. Just how much could you move to the top?

The power button would certainly be easy enough, but what about maybe a fan controller there too, and even an optical drive. I've aquired a slot loading DVD reader that would be perfect. Might even follow this idea up myself some time in the future....

Possibly a plain black allu front with mesh fitted for airflow in a rectangle and curving over the top slightly?

I have done a simple mock up in photoshop, poor effort but I only spent 2 minutes making it :)

That slot is designed for a slot loading drive btw... they look awesome :p

You can buy brushed allu sheets now quite cheaply, made by AC Ryan afaik.

Rakiris plan looks pretty cool, a little off topic but Rakiri did you use Photohop to send your deisgn to have your side cut?
thanks
Mark

lol @ on bricks ... very ghetto

@ Raikiri, thats really good for a 2 minute job! mesh would be good, especially if there was no drives and switches behind it - see straight through the case! need to decide on the slot drive option, looks and sounds real nice. thanks for going to that effort, even if it was two minutes!

@ misterPK, where i live, if i put wheels on it, the next morning it would be on bricks!!

Slot drive is a really nice idea, never thought about that. Are there any slot sata drives about? Would def look good on your case bluntside.
