*** OPPO Find X5 Pro ***

Loving the phone, battery life is fantastic, screen is nice and I think I prefer the OS to my old S20+, Anyone else waiting on a claim to be validated for the pre order?

Submitted mine a bit late on March 30, still waiting to hear anything.

Loving the phone too, blows my 8T out of the water.

I've really enjoyed my Find X2 Pro, and had originally planned to switch to this when my contract finishes in a couple of months; but I just realised they dropped the Periscope Zoom (which I LOVED for taking outdoor/animal shots on my travels) and also the storage is now smaller.

What were they thinking, it was bloody brilliant; better than the main camera IMO?!

Really torn on where to go now, after getting used to the options the periscope zoom offered; I'm not sure I want to go back to without it!

Pixel 6 Pro offers an excellent 4x periscope zoom.

And the cameras are something else. No equal.

Yes, Pixel 6 Pro and the Samsung Note are now firmly on my radar, although had ideally wanted something with at least the 5x Periscope/Optical zoom I already had.

I really don't know what Oppo was thinking though; I was SO bloody happy with the overall package of the Find X2 Pro, why did they have to go and downgrade the damn thing? Surely new models should UPGRADE, not take key features away :(

This is the sensor on your X2 Pro.
13 MP, f/3.0, 129mm (periscope telephoto), 1/3.4", 1.0µm, 5x optical zoom, PDAF, OIS

Pixel... 48 MP, f/3.5, 104mm (telephoto), 1/2", 0.8µm, PDAF, OIS, 4x optical zoom

The 6 Pros better and bigger 1/2" sensor combined with the Pixels first class image processing is in a different league. Even with added digital zoom it'll look better.

Samsung has greater reach with the 10x yes, but they use tiny sensors and don't have that DSLR like quality that bigger sensors provide, IMO.

Order the pro from Google and give it a go. They are good with returns.

It [FX2Pro] produces a really, really nice 5x Optical zoom shot though; they did a really good job of optimising and tweaking that in the Find X2 Pro, and anything I replace the phone with I'd want to be able to match it.

The Google looks like it really does have the best camera array out of the current phones and would probably keep me happy [4x v 5x would not be THAT noticeable]; the performance lagging behind the other phones is a bit of a killer though.
The Samsung has other compromises, as you say, worse sensor, higher cost, exynos which is both good and bad.
The Find X5 has a nice meaty main sensor, but only 2x Optical and I'm not convinced it can match the sharpness of the 5x Optical Zoom from the Find X2 Pro.

So frustrating, honestly!

I've had the S22U and the pixel is noticeably smoother. I don't know how they do it but it's mega smooth. And I can tell you now the zoom will impress even you.

Also the main wide sensor on the Pixel is even bigger than on the X2 Pro.

Apparently from their research consumers were more interested in better low light shots over zoom, so they focused on that instead. IMO they are completely right, one main reason I got this over the S22U is because I have no interest whatsoever in zoom and anything over 2x I feel is just pointless.

Others like yourself off course are the opposite, can't please everyone I guess. If zoom is that important then get the S22U.

Zoom is not just used to get closer to an object. It's also used to get a different perspective of a scene. It compresses background and foreground. And gives a less distorted image and more true to life representation vs a wide and ultrawide.

And also when you're at this end of the price range all 3 cameras should be good to excellent.

Or if, like me and the wife, you like wildlife; it can be used to take photos that would just be impossible to get at decent quality without a half decent zoom; as you just can't get close enough without it.

Don't get me wrong, I also like low light performance, but as Kona says, at over £1000, I'm not sure they should have gone backwards in any departments. 2x Optical is pretty poor for an over £1000 phone. Honestly that and reducing the storage were bad moves. They had one of the best phones at the time in the Find X2 Pro, even if it did forfeit wireless charging.

It feels like they made the wrong choice here; they should have kept these features AND improved low light. They could have done both; and the new image processor would have likely done a great job.

The Find X2 Pro was a great point and click camera; which was actually good enough for me to ditch my (admittedly old) bridge SLR camera; as it just got a good enough shot, quickly enough, the vast majority of the time, without needing to worry about the same level of battery drain or bulk the camera had.
That zoom was sometimes critical for some of the shots we got; so exactly why I'm so reluctant to ditch it.

@Kona - honestly I believe you on the Pixel, my younger brother has one and I've seen it a few times. Its a very nice phone. Even he recommended I wait for the upcoming 'next gen' however :)

No worries bud. I know I'm coming across a bit heavy on the Pixel, it's just that it suits me very well as hobbyist phototherapher. You'll only really know once you've used it for a week.

Do you post edit your pics? It makes a hell of a difference just to tweak the shadows and colour etc.

Most of the time no or at least not heavily, I must be honest, it's one of the reasons I favour a camera/phone that can get me good results 99% of the time out of the box, as I carry it virtually all the time. The Find X2 Pro matched and beat multiple other high end phones I'd used, as well as plenty of pocket digital cameras, and also had a considerably faster focus than my old Bridge DSLR, so has been a great every day point and shoot; and that zoom lens has given me opportunities to grab shots I'd just not have managed with other phones. I'll admit I hadn't even considered the Pixel line before you mentioned them yesterday, I was still in shock at how backwards the X5 Pro was in some ways, but I will definately be keeping an eye on the Pixel 7 Pro and if Oppo release a TRUE X2 Pro successor on the later side of the year.
