I'm glad someone cleared this up as I was going to post this, there is this misconception that FGM is always worse than MGM which is used to justify the sexism of the legislation, when in most cases it is comparable.

Too true and there is also a scale of male circumcision as well and I highly recommend people don't look at the other more extreme sorts if they have eaten recently ...

I am genuinely intrigued as to to the reasoning of Judaism and Islam with regards to it being done.

"Because someone said so." isn't really a valid justification.

Getting sand up there stands to a bit of logic back then, but times have moved on. Oh wait, this is religion we are talking about, being contemporary was never a factor in any of them.

You just made me groan more than I have done in ages, and made my hand jump to my groin just to reassure myself that my foreskin is still present. :(

Please don't follow up this post with any additional information regarding said procedures.

I don't think I've seen such a horrifically facetious comment in my whole time on these forums. And how on Earth you can treat an issue like this as the subject of humour, really is beyond the pale, and beyond me. Disgusting.

Well, I'm extremely proud to be able to say that such practice bothers me as yes, Angleboy quite correctly says, you're a Muslim, your son is not. If you do choose to get your son circumcised, raised in the same religion as yourself, then not only have you behaved with flippancy befitting only somebody of religious affiliation, you've crystallised a perfect example of a word known as; "indoctrination". None of these are good things, by the way.

+1 more sense from naffa

I did warn you ...

I genuinely wonder this too even if I am quite impartial as I don't really care what parents choose.

If God wanted men to have their knobs chopped, then why didn't he make the change before shipping us out the factory so to speak?

Just thought that I'd chime in here and say that Spawn, I find your opinion completely hypocritical and horribly offensive.

You ask what business it is of ours if you slice up and mutilate a child (without informed consent), yet I'm sure you'd claim that it was your business if I made a silly cartoon about Mohammed - Islam seems to be based on the idea that being offended actually means something (whereas in our culture, which you are a part of, it is not - actual harm, such as circumcision is).

I would hope that the slew of concise reasoning will put some dent in your shambolic understanding of the universe, however you've demonstrated a remarkable ability to cling on to ignorance. I'm sure this statement will somewhat remove me from the moral high-ground, but I would happily include you in a culling of the more useless members of the human race. How can we really be proud of ourselves as a species with elements such as yourself?

I appreciate that you yourself have been brainwashed, and are a victim in all of this as well, however you have moved to the point where you are now the abuser, and whilst the fault might not rest fully at your own door, you are now responsible for your own actions and the pain you cause. Is "Just following orders" really a justifiable excuse? (I'm sure being muslim you won't see the holocaust in the same light as us however).

Circumcision is not proved in anyway to be a positive thing in today's age, and has a myriad of clinically proven disadvantages, complications and problems. Aside from the physical, there are also studies which show a severely damaged child/parent relationship which could affect their upbringing consciously or not for a very long time, even shape the adults they turn into. I love my foreskin, and if someone removed it I would remove their lungs. I am deeply concerned for your future offspring, and whilst circumcision would be the main reason, it is far from the only one.

I don't really feel the need to actually argue the tangible facts of circumcision, as this thread already contains a majority of what I would say.

You, are no better than an animal, incapable of ethical thought.

P P P P Paaaaancake!!

I had it done due to medical reasons when I was first born. I don't particularly care either which way, has done me no harm and the ladies never complain so meh. I wouldn't force a child to have it but medical reasons them of course it is fine.

I dont get the whole mutilation screaming and shouting debate you are all having.

No need to wind my neck - I just merely stated you was talking out your *** which you now appear to agree with as you are one minute posting that kids under 7 days do not feel much pain and then the next stating that you don't know and that you only have second hand knowledge of two cases of which one that it appears had been given analgesia. To save you looking any more neonates feel pain to the same extent as adults and as most adults here who have had the procedure say it hurts like hell then I guess it does for the little chaps to. What they do not have is the ability to vocalise that pain or advocate for their own desires instead in the absence of adequate pain control they do such pleasant things as breath-hold and go blue from lack of oxygen + vomit + stop breathing etc. So argue all you want for your religious rights but do not state this is a pain free or relatively insignificant procedure as the physiological response of the neonates it is performed upon indicates that it is not. The balancing act is will not having the procedure performed cause more problems from a social aspect but that is not the slant you are coming from is it?
I wouldn't bother mate. I said the same thing virtually word for word a few pages back and he didn't even bother to respond

This thread has come very far i really didnt expect it.

Yeah its been a really interesting discussion over the last few days, I'm surprised GD :).

So you lot would like to pancake your little soldiers?

I think some are wanting a substitute for their missing foreskin :D.

Well it's a bit like removing a random piece of skin at birth for no medical reason. If their is a medical need then there's no argument and it doesn't matter to the majority of females (or males for that matter). There's nothing abnormal with having it or not really.

But what's the point in removing it when they're young if their isn't a medical need? may as well chop off that little bit of floppy skin at the bottom of their ears as well.
