Options when Super Unleaded is unavailable

Move, or just accept that the S2000 will be perfectly capable of running with 95ron, if you think about it, it will only be the minority that ever actually get SUL in their tank

But, whilst you have SUL, go out with a g meter, make some plots and then repeat with normal UL and show us the difference, you might get more sympathy there (this is OCUK motors, so i was J/K)

Just to chirp in, in this case chances are a vtec NA car will be ok on basic 95 ron, ran my dc5 on super though myself. Its a JDM import and there fuel is something like 102ron at pumps (lucky hallions)

But, in case anyone else does a search, running something like a skyline, silvia, evo, (turbocharged cars) that is mapped for super unleaded, it is very important to stick to super unleaded, not just whack basic petrol in. Unless you enjoy reshaping pistons and putting holes in them.

I asked something like this before and was told: "The higher RON fuel should have no effect one way or another. The K20 isn't knock limited in N/A fashion, so going higher RON doesn't really have any real benefit above what you are using now."

Okay (I knew that) so what did the not 'knock limited' mean?

11:1 static just allows bonkers cams that keep a sensible dynamic compression ratio for BMEP. I think the F20c is 11.5:1?

I have no idea, this is why I made it clear it was something I was told and not trying to put it forward as something I knew about :) I've tried all fuels and noticed no difference anyway.
I will dig further.

But anything your told regarding a K20 with iVTEC isn't that relevant to a more tune and less able to managed due to no VTC F20c. Not to mention you were told it so its regurgitation with minimal context. The same as you not noticing a difference in your K20 engine car doesn't mean much for the F20c. Variable inlet phasing makes a huge difference to how the ignition tables are calibrated.

Regurgitation with minimal context? That's what OC Motors is.

I did a quick search and the FAQ on S2KUK says:
The S2000 is designed to run on high octane fuel. This means that you should be filling up
with Super Unleaded or Shell Optimax. F20-C2's are not supposed to be run on 95 octane.
Whilst this may not destroy your engine, it could be grounds for Honda to refuse a
warranty repair, so please check your owners manual. The 02 model is apparently less
fussy about fuel, but runs better on higher octane.

Obviously holds no relevance as it's just something they're telling people.

OP needs a waaaaaaambulance stat, but its going to take ages to get there because they couldn't find SUL and it means the engine is going to explode after running like a bag of spanners with only 8% of the HP.

The local waaaaambulance service providers have released a statement saying they refuse to bowdown to the lack of SUL and catagorically will not have a simple remap out of principle.

A state of emergency has been declared on the small island of retardsville.

To be fair, an awful lot of crap gets passed as fact on most single make forums. If the manual/fuel filler cap says you can use 95, then you can use 95.

Quite. I wouldn't break a sweat putting 95 ron in an s2000. It has knock sensors, Ecu will bring back the timing to suit, and the sun will rise in the East the following day. All will be well :D

My car feels as flat as pancake on 95 ron. Put a tank of 99 ron in, and within a few miles the timing has shifted forward and the top end power is much better, and mpg goes up a little too.

Exhibit A: regurgitation.

What did you think of the differences when you drove an S2000?

Internet folklore. The majority of them won't be run on anything other than 95. Typical drivers just don't care

Yeah but you get more bee ach pees with higher ron fuel don't ya know. Jonny, go give the wife some attention.
