OPTY 165 or OPTY 185

165 would be my 1st choice, then 170. I wouldnt get anything else, in general the steppings are worse. Good point about the multi, need a dfi for a 165 to hit the 330+ htt.

My Opteron 170 from ocuk went straight to 2.6Ghz on stock volts, and 2.8Ghz over-volted a little, on stock cooler. I haven't personally heard about any problems with any of the opterons in terms of overclocking. Someone who worked at AMD who I know quite well said that they are all subject to the same testing procedure (for a 185) before finally being burnt and stamped with the final multiplier.

Just ordered myself a 165 to replace my 3700, as I couldnt justify the expense of upgrading to C2D as my current machine really isnt struggling much.

Gonna stick it in my DFI Ultra D and reinstall my W/C I think - haven't had a good crack at a CPU in a while :)

Opty 185

Ordered a Opty 185.
Well someone had to stick there neck out to see if they overclock to 3Ghz.
Should be here Tuesday.

my asus a8n0e doin 340htt but let down on memory divider dont like 133 divider when using *9 multipler

My old opty 170 did 2.7ghz on stock volts

and 2.8ghz FX62 speeds on 1.375v :)

The 185 is a waste of money IMO the higher multi does not mean higher clocks.

The higher multi is the only reason why i bought it because i want to aviold overclocking everything else as much as i can.

My Opty 185 is on its way to me as we speak, should be here tomorrow or Wednesday. I know it isn't cheap, but I don't overclock, especially on my main rig. I can't afford to buy a new one. :) It's only money and my christmas prezzie to me.

Will let you know what stepping is when she arrives.

I'm expecting my Opty 165 to arrive later this week, although starting to wonder if it was a good buying seeing as OC now have x2 4400s in stock!

Can anyone give me (a newbie to overclocking) some hints as to what I should be increasing and how on a Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI mobo to get the best out of my new CPU. At present I only overclock my 3500 using the Gigabyte utility when I'm actually gaming.

Thanks,

Got both my opty 165 at 2.7, one with 1.39volts the other 1.425volts. One on an Asus premium, other on a DFI SLI-D. Very happy with the performance, think they have more in them but the RAM is holding me back (also the mem dividers seem to have a will of thier own)

Good luck - its worth the effort

Just got mine (165): LCB9E 0646RPMW
Two hits on google, one dude got to 2.7 with 1.35 volts without breaking a sweat and another (foreign language dude) hit 3 Ghz apparently, so the signs are good. Knowing my luck though...

Just googled mine 32 hits first one said 3Ghz at 1.4 Vcore.
I would be really lucking if that was the case for mine.

Got mine in now, but I'd forgotten how crap this BIOS is. I had to update my Neo2 plat to the 1.C BIOS prior to installing the CPU and... the BIOS is terrible. I remember I tried this BIOS a few months back and ended up reverting to an older one because the dividers weren't working properly (if I tried the 133/200 divider with my old CPU it wouldn't boot, same is happening with the new opty) and it ALWAYS did the sodding RAM check on boot. I'll have to find a way around this before I start clocking I guess.
