OPTY 165 or OPTY 185

Wow these sound encouraging!

Mine's arrived but not fitted it yet, was starting to get despondent and wondered if I should go for a 4600 x2 or a 4800 x 2 instead, but these last posts have cheered me up!

I dropped my X2 4600 that the Opty 185 is replacing, bent 3 pins on it !!! :(

Have got them straightened, got to open up my spare pc now and see if she still works. The 185 is running at stock for now, i'm in too much shock. Nearly did in my first cpu.

165, stepping LCB9E, arrived yesterday.

Currently sat at 2.5, stock volts, air.

Seem to be having a problem with memory dividers below 333 on my Asus A8N Premium board. Is this a known problem ?

My mobo bios says cpu temp is currently at 54 degrees unders a Freezer Pro, is this correct ? Running at stock.

My X2 still works thankfully, took a bit more pin straightening to get her to fit into the cpu socket, and now its in it is never coming out. :D

Will have to get a list of things for the MM including my now redundant Clawhammer FX55.
Boys and their toys = Fools and their money. :D

(if I tried the 133/200 divider with my old CPU it wouldn't boot, same is happening with the new opty)

My Neo2 Plat does this too with an Opteron 146. Even the latest modded BIOS doesn't fix it, it's pretty annoying.

Got both my opty 165 at 2.7, one with 1.39volts the other 1.425volts. One on an Asus premium, other on a DFI SLI-D. Very happy with the performance, think they have more in them but the RAM is holding me back (also the mem dividers seem to have a will of thier own)

Good luck - its worth the effort

my dividers on asus board are very strange

Finally sorted out my motherboard troubles (kinda). Sitting @ 2.7 Ghz in windows with 1.4 vcore. Stability testing to come, but so far, so good.

^^ what my Firefox session manager retrieved when I reloaded windows after crashing for the first time, hah.

Trying 1.45 volts now.

Hmmm....

What to do, my 165 LCB9E 0646 RPMW has just arrived to replace my current CCBWE 0551 WPMW. However a 170 should be arriving tomorrow so I can't decide if I should wait and see what stepping the 170 it is before I open the 165 box or if I should just rip into it.

Planning on disposing of the unused chips via auction so probably worth more if unopened.

Current 165 gets very hot above 2.5 Ghz even without it's IHS so will be interested to see how the new ones perfom.

Any more news on the 0646 RPMW stepping, very little about on google.

I've got mine stable(ish) at 2.6Ghz, 1.35-1.4 vcore (never can tell on the MSI neo2 plat). Can't even load windows fully at 2.7Ghz and stock volts, so I've bumped the clock speed down a bit and I'm going to work up bit by bit when I have time. I ran prime for half an hour and then played an hour of BF2 earlier and it's not crashed or errored, so that's a start.

Heat is a bit of a concern. The CPU runs at ~40 idle and I had it up to 58 running prime on both cores. A bit too toasty for my liking. My old 3200 never went above 52 degrees.

Just curious as to what is the default voltage for these chips as mine is defaulted at 1.45. Should I lower it a bit to 1.40 ?

My Opty 185 is now at 1.35 approx. The last digit moves around a bit between 3 and 7.

Would explain why she was 54 degrees yesterday, one way of burning in a new cpu, let the mobo give it some extra juice rather than checking myself what the volage was.

Well I cracked and had a play with the new 165. LCB9E 0646 RPMW

Results aren't looking too good so far. :( This one is a little more responsive to volts, I can get to around 2.6 at 1.375v and 2.75 at 1.475v but that seems to be the limit. At 1.45v I'm looking at 35C idle, 54C load with a TT Big Typhoon.

It will take a little more and run Orthos, but a couple of mins of small FFT at priority 10 results in an error. Could probably go further with more volts but this is no wonder chip.

This one still has the IHS on though, not planning on removing it as I hope the 170 clocks better.

It must be your bios that is over volting as mine defaults at 1.32 volts.

Now running at 3005Mhz at 1.53 volts. One core fails prime but its game stable, left TMN running all night on spectator & was still going strong in the morning.

Running CPU Burn-in v1.01 on the weakcore to see if it helps.
