Same stepping as mine - pity it doesn't look like a great stepping from you experience.

Still, i'll be happy with 2.6/2.7ghz stable (as thats all my 3700 really did).

Looks like I've got a crap clocker; story of my bloody life (every chip I've bought since my 2500 barton has been average to poor in the clocking stakes). My LCB9E 0646RPMW won't even play nice in windows @ 2.7Ghz with 1.4725 volts. It seems fine at 2.6 Ghz, but I've yet to give it a sustained thrashing at this speed. Temps are rather high too; I'm hitting 60C when running orthos whereas the CPU it replaced never went above 52C. There's some bloke on another forum who's almost got it stable at 2.8Ghz + 1.34v with a chip of the same stepping, but so far I've not got anywhere near that.

2.7Ghz was the goal because I've got cheapo ram meaning I couldn't go much beyond 300 HTT anyway. Anyone else have zero luck when it comes to clocking? My venice 3200 wouldn't go much above 2.55 Ghz either (bought shortly after the time when loads of people were hitting 2.8Ghz and beyond with 3000s). Still, I guess 2.6Ghz(ish) isn't bad for a £110 outlay.

As my previous post, this ain't no superchip....

I have noticed the same problem as Jokester noted with the conroe, my new 165 IHS is concave. I refitted with the minimum paste and my temps went up. When I removed the HSF to look, the paste in the centre was undisturbed but the outsides were all nice and stippled where contact had been made. Had to use more paste than I'd like in the centre of the core to ensure I get contact. A 170 arrives tomorrow otherwise I'd be lapping this one now.

On a more positive note, after some playing around it's stable at 2650MHz with just 1.40v which sets my Gskill HZ at 241Mhz 3-4-4-8 1T 3x

I managed orthos for 3 hours before getting bored waiting at HTT 308 giving around 2770 with 1.50v at 252Mhz 3-4-4-8 1T HT 3x but I get an error at 311 (2.8) after 10 or so mins of Orthos small FFT prior 10. I changed the fan on the Big Typhoon for one of the Tricool antec ones which gives me three speeds. Max speed lowers the temp from 56c to 48c but it still seems the heat not coming out of the core easily.

It's always core 2 that pulls and error, not sure if that's significant.

Currently testing 2700 @ 1.425v

Had the same issues with my first 165 though this one is marginally better.

Just the luck of the draw and also not everyone measures stability to the same degree

2.6 Ghz + isn't bad for a cheapo chip, water cooling would probably give it some more.

Have fun
