Yes you can but as said they cost more at least £160 and if the skate comes in at £100 (a big if and it probably won't), it is still going to be the better budget mobile overall. I agree if it does cost more than £140, it will be pointless as you can get better mobiles out there for a wee bit more cash.
Again yes the mobile is extremely sluggish, however if it gets good support from the developing community that won't be a problem just like it is with the SF and my i5700, as I said my i5700 with custom stuff feels just as fast and smooth if not better than my bros desire on stock 2.2 and this guy said the same thing pretty much but compared to an incredible S, which is a lot better:
http://forum.samdroid.net/f21/testing-new-htc-incredible-s-device-4630/
And the i5700 is only 800Mhz as well.
Plus things are about to get much better for the i5700 as a true developer has written the 2.3 kernel from scratch to be compatible with the i5700 and he is also nearly done with his fully rewritten drivers for 3D/2D etc. so the speed and smoothness will increase a lot and this mobile only has like 160MB of RAM available, 800MHz processor etc.
Also no matter what mobile you have, if it has got orange bloat on it etc. it will lag and most home launchers lag anyway, be interesting to see how it would be with LP or go launcher on. The only stock launchers which don't lag that much at all is the sense one and the new touchwiz on the GS 2. Plus iirc those aren't the final devices, which have been shown in youtube videos etc. so hopefully some things should improve.
Again that costs £175, where as if the skate comes in below £120, for most people it will be the better buy, plus iirc it has a bigger better quality screen, which is very important to me and probably most others. Also what is the support like for it?
I am sure that the acer has got crap community support though, does it even have 2.3 or even 2.2?
Personally I would love flash, however I am not too bothered about it for now, especially in this handset as it is suppose to be a budget device just like the SF was and if they introduce an armv7 1GHz processor etc. the price will increase by quite a bit, therefore people might as well buy the better brand e.g. HTC.
And as said most people won't really give a toss about flash e.g. my parents as well, look at all the iphone 4 owners who haven't jailbroken, there happy with the way it is.
EDIT:
The acer liquid e display isn't as good as the skate, TFT 256K colours 3.5" compared to TFT 16M colours 4.3".
Personally the display is one of the most important things I think for everything, TV, monitor and now smartphones, you are constantly looking at the screen and so you are going to want the display to look as good as possible and now that smartphones are being used for nearly everything, internet, multimedia etc. a 4.3" 16M will be very pleasing for most people I would assume although some might not find it comfortable to hold.
And from what I have seen so far the skate display looks great quality.
The problem is that you can get better phones for around £150 to £200 which can actually run flash and have faster processors. The San Francisco is under £100 so using a Qualcomm MS7227 and Adreno 200 is OK. Paying over £140 to £150 for an Orange branded ZTE Skate with a slow CPU and GPU is a waste of money. It seems the phone is sluggish:
The Acer Liquid E can be had for around £130 so if you shop around you can get some decent deals on fully unlocked phones. On top or this the iPhones actually have ARM7 based CPUs.
The MS7227 and Adreno combination is found in many of the cheaper £80 to £120 smartphones. What made the San Francisco special was the fact you got a high resolution 800X480 AMOLED or TFT screen for under £100. This is why I recommended it to a few people at the time. The Monte Carlo OTH offers slightly improved specs and a slightly bigger screen.
On top of this as I mentioned before if it is over £140 to £150 it is a waste of money. If it came in at £130 with top-up the it would be a good deal due to its improved specifications.
This is why when people say it is will be good value at around £150 I will not agree with them. That is 50% more than a San Francisco(or even more if you get it on one of the special offers).

I've already said the menus felt a bit jerky. However I have no doubt that this will be a good seller. It does everything that 90% of most mobile users want and has a fantastic screen which will sell itself in the Orange shops.
I've also already said I think it will retail for around £129 so I am basing my opinion on that. It's good value for most.
Yeah, but unfortunately apple don't support flash out of the box.
Yup, I am not disputing any of that
As I have also said, that it will need to be sold for less than £125 to be worth considering over the other options.
The main thing that attracts me is the screen, but it will all come down to what the support is like and the pricing in the end.
And the i5700 is only 800Mhz as well.
Yes, but it is a Samsung chip, bit harder to compare.
My i5700 is still running 1.5, since there's literally no way to do it on Linux. And that's not the independent developers fault, it's bloody Samsung's.
, you don't know what you are missing out on, CM 8.4 with yonip V22
and about to with tom3q stuff nearing completion. When will the new orange be out guys?
awesome, atleast you'll be able to see the display in sunlight
1ghz cpu would have been nice though. If they price it at around £140-150 it'll do well.
Paul obrian and fibblesan from Modaco are at the Zte uk event and have tweeted it runs 1ghz CPU.
can't be the same cpu as the san fran then, that struggled to hit 700mhz!
mrk, we're not talking about 400 quid devices in this thread. tft has the upper hand in sunlight over oled IME.

some say that it might come with snapdragon.. we'll see.. but if the preorders sit at £229 it won't sell..
.Mine's oc'ed to 729MHz![]()
